The 2006 model catalog shows that a hardwood (Item#26010) version is being offered, but only in the new short action. They also offer a Durawood (Item#26115) synthetic long action model that has been offered since last year.
I have a .308 hardwood model on order through my dealer. He says his supplier has not seen any hardwood or short actions yet.
Shortly after reading of the new offerings in the ATR line, I sent an E-mail to Mossberg expressing my appreciation for their expanding ATR line. I also suggested that they offer the hardwood in the long action as well and suggested other calibers. I received a quick reply (later the same day) that thanked me for the "kind" message and "for being a Mossberg customer". Other than "thank you" comments, no additional information was included
My guess is that Mossberg is "treading" lightly with the ATR and in a direction to keep costs down. Testing the market, so to speak. In the ATR's price range they have stiff competition with the Stevens 200, a proven design. So even though they are only offering it in four caliber's, those caliber's pretty much cover anything from varmints to large game. The .30-06 may not be a top chioce for the big bears, but it is capable.
Thanks.
