For the pistol, it's the .41Remington Magnum of course. In a rifle, I like the .280Remington.

write me up for the ol' 22-250
The 30-06 would have to come in second.
I also like the 243....Why hasn't anyone said it? Or did I just overlook it.

.243 is a Winchester cartridge for one  . The .30-06 was actually developed by Springfield for their military rifles (so that would make it .30-06 Springfield). The only one you mentioned that was actually a 'Remington' cartridge was the .22-250, a great varmint caliber from what I understand.  :D

I stand corrected

Didn't even notice the question ask your favorite REMINGTON.

Actually the 22-250 is a great deer caliber. The only thing is that you have to have a really good scope and have good shot placement. If you shoot a deer in the neck with one it will nock it off it's feet but i prefer a heart or double lung shot.

280 remington. I think it really is the best of all worlds.

I have to agree with that, although it was not on my list as one of my favorite Remington Cartridges, and I still prefer the 7mag over the .280, the .280 is perfectly balanced in performance and recoil...if only there was a larger selection of factory loads...Remington NEEDS to add the .280 to the Premium line of factory loadings!!!

First of all my vote is for the 280. Remington is adding a 280 load in the premium line for this year a 140 grain accutip.

35 Whelen for big game. It can handle everyhing from from light loads with revolver bullets to big brown bears in the bush and african plains game with controlled exspansion bullets. 44 mag is my sixgun caliber of choice. 222 for varmints. Anthony

280 and 7mm-08. I have both. Next would be the 25-06. Least of all and the bottom of the list for me, 7 Mag.
shot placement is everything.

That would be the 35Whelen, or in short action it would be the .350RM.  For deer, in very short action it would be the 35 Rem.

Did I mention I like 35's?

I'm for the 32 Rem.  I would have said 25Rem, but after two years looking I haven't found one I can afford.  Someday the right Model 14 will show itself.

7-08, .280, 7mag.  No one has mentioned the .260.  I had a .243 rebarrelled to a .260 this year (why else would anyone buy a .243  except to rebarrel)  and killed a couple of deer with it.  I know two deer don't make a doxology but I was impressed.

260 remington all the way
« Reply #78 on: February 12, 2005, 08:10:34 PM »
260 Remington, first handload with 129gn bullets went less than 1'' @100yd from my 700ADL synthetic (from Grice). One shot from it at about 75-85 yd put Mr 8pt down in about 5 sec-20yd. Recoil not much more than 30-30. 223 is a nifty cartridge for target-varmint too.

In 1958 or '59 my dad went to the Sears and Roebuck and bought a brand new Remington 725 in .280 Remington.  He put a 6X J.C. Higgins (Weaver) scope on it and went to the Dallas Gun Range for sighting in.  He wrote himself up a card with different bullet weights and the ballistic table for each.  He placed that card in his wallet and carried it until he died in March of '96.  This was his only centerfire rifle and he could shoot it.  We ate Thanksgiving Turkey killed  in the Texas Hill country for many years.  The venison was eaten all year long.  I don't think he ever missed.  He killed his last deer in '94 with this rifle.  It has been in my gun safe until I pulled the scope and sent it to El Paso for renewal.  It is bore sighted and I just picked up some 140 grain shells.  This coming deer season I'll carry it instead of my 700 BDL '06.  Then my son and grandson will have a try with "Pop-Pops" old Remington.  Thanks for making me think about it.
