Interesting, I have never read about natural hybrids, I wonder if someone was doing a little weird crosses.  I would suggest looking into Ligers and Tigons.  The liger is a male lion/female tiger, it is bigger than both, a truly formidable hunter if ever introduced in the wild.  The tigon is a male tiger/female lion cross (note, much harder to produce as a male tiger is more discriminating than a male lion).  A tigon gets the worst of the deal, smaller in all respects.

The creature has come up somewhere else on the net, because my mom mentioned it this weekend, and she would have gotten an email or something about it. She couldn't recall where she saw it.
Thanks anyway.

I read yesterday that one had been caught. Verified to be a fox with mange. I'll look for the link.

Here's a hairless bear with mange. Same problem, different animal.

That's interesting. I was just getting ready to post today that it was probably a young fox with mange. We've seen some recently and the young ones don't have full bushy tales yet.

That's the same critter? :?

Didn't the critter in the original photo have short, brown fur?

We have lots of mangy foxes up here, and they don't look like that first photo.

Nuts.  With the disappearance of the original photo, this critter goes into the big file marked Great Mysterys of Life.

Well, maybe Little Mysterys of Life.....
