If I had to pick only one        I guess it would be this one.

Hope THAT choice never needs to be made, as this one is more for BB-Q's  :)

:cb2: OK, since the question was "for range and field shooting/hunting," I'd have to go with a standard Ruger 7.5 Bisley. Got two of those: one scoped, one not—both great!

different tasks. The forst is a bone stock except for the herrett Grips a 6" 629. The second is a Ruger SS Blackhawk 44 magnum 5.5" barrel with a Millit white outline rear sight and mustang over-sized grips. It also has its own custom full flap holster.  The third is a Ruger Super Redhawk with Hogue rubber monogrips. I think I want it cut from its 7.5 back to 5.5 for better balance. Thats the trio.

Hi all,
My favorite is a 7.5" SS SBH Bisley.  It started life as a SS SBH but I replaced the grip frame, trigger and hammer with Bisley parts.  Then, about a year later (you might know it) Ruger came out with a SS Bisley Hunter.  Now that's my other most favorite.
I can't see any difference in their performance.  Both are excellent shooters.

First, I will say that grips are like shoes.  what fits one guy doesn't  fit the next.  For this reason, or something like it, I find that I can do much more accurate shooting with a DA than with a SA.  I like the S&W 29-2 with 6.5 inch barrel for prettiness, but it's not strong enough to stand up to heavy use.  So for real 44 Mag shooting I like the Dan Wesson with an 8 inch barrel.  It's as strong as any of them for heavy duty use and more accurate than most.  Plus, I have two barrels, one with a scope and one without.

I would vote for the Ruger Super Redhawk in .44 Mag.  Bill T.

Tusker - that is a beautiful Smith and Wesson you have there.  My favorite 44 mags are both S&Ws.  One is an original 29-2 with the 6.5" bbl and the other was its twin that went back to Smith for some custom work.  They installed a 4" stainless Mountain Gun bbl, and then to match the finish, bead blasted and blued the revolver so it is in an all-matt finish.  Granted, it's not pretty but it is just the way I want it for field work.

Unfortunately for me, now that I've seen that 29 of yours, I'm wondering if I should get one just like it for parties and barbecues and social events that I would carry at, not to mention hunting and general shooting.  Yours looks like one of the Elmer Keith beauties, and it sure is nice.  Mikey.
