i guess the you guys down on the border hate our new border zar Tom Homan too. he cusses about every time hes on tv or does an interview!! Just like my description of what we need for soldiers he's exactly what we needed for a border zar! a no nonsense cop that tells it like it is and isnt worried about being politically correct or a few cuss words offending someone who pretends to be politically correct. id love to see a certain cop on tv after arresting Homan "because mere words offended him or the people of texas" i guess those laws only are enforced on mexicans and druggies and yankee's!! wonder how many southern white conservatives have been to court in TX for cussing? after all if its the law it should be enforced on EVERYONE. Now i actually heard Homan cuss in TX in a interview on tv. So how about a citizens arrest by an ex cop that thinks hes morally better than Homan LMFAO!!!!!! you better thank GOD there are rough tough unpolished unapologetic REAL COPS AND SOLDIERS protecting you and not thin skinned yuppies!! Hate to pull the lawyer card on you Dee, but the statute you are quoting refers to "inciting" an immediate breach of the peace.  If the language in question WAS a breach of the peace, there would be no requirement that the language "incite" a breach of the peace.  Saying the "F" word is NOT a breach of the peace, and the Supreme Court has already ruled that it falls under freedom of speech.  Just because you may have arrested people under that statute years ago does not mean it would withstand a SCOTUS ruling today.

Well, I've had lots of lawyer cards pulled on me over the years and thankfully my shredder handles'em all. If you think I'm wrong just come on down to Texas start getting loud and vulgar in a family restaurant, or park, or public place around  kids and women, and see what happens when someone files a complaint. You  don't  have to agree with the  law, but  it says what it  says, and has for decades, and is enforced likely on a daily  bases.Nuff said. Texas law is in Texas.

The way I read the law here in Texas about citing violence using vulgarity towards someone in public is it's definitely against Texas law. I'm not a lawyer but looks pretty cut and dry to me.

Just think. Look how crazy  this has gotten. All this over a thread about an obviously frustrated president making a slip with his language. It was supposed to be about that. Now look at it. Morfed into a wildly exaggerated and insulting defense for the right to be vulgar in public places. Makes you think doesn't it?

Who makes up the rules? Who determines what words are cursing or swearing? Where is it written down in stone for all to see?

Good point!  When I started policing it was against the law to use profane language in the presence of women or children.  The the women part was the first to be  removed, then an age specific was added for the children.  By the time I was prosecuting the whole ban on the use of profanity was gone.

Today it seems as if conversational profanity has become the norm.  Words are used freely by men, women and children with no more thought to their historical meaning then we used to give when we exclaimed WOW, GEE WIZZ or whatever.

A teenaged girl once tried to explain to me one time why the "F" word was the perfect word to use in a myriad of situations.  Her older brother and sister agreed with her. Their mother, who I have known since she was a baby, did as well.  Their father just stood there looking down.  Their grandmother did not agree as she was the one who told her daughter and grandchildren to stop using that language in front of her in the first place.

So you have it. One family, three generations, the oldest (70-80's) thinks cussing in polite company is wrong and is insulted, the middle generation (40-50's) is kinda divided, and the youngest generation (Teens and 20's) think it's not only acceptable but normal.

So like most things nowadays, I don't care (read: give a rat's a**) what other folks do, that's up to them.  As for myself, I still believe that a Gentleman does not use off color language in the presence of women, children ... or Preachers!

I agree Richard, I was raised by a Father and Mother that never used off color language in public. Especially around Women and Children. I try my best to follow those guidelines. It is all about respect. Few politicians have it when the rubber meets the road. He needs to go home and wash his mouth out with soap.
