Things must be easing up...I was in Walmart yesterday, and there was a lot of ammo available.  Not so much variety, but plenty of certain brands.

Hmmm, my own Walmart just quit selling ammo.
the former ammo shelves now have air rifles and camping stuff.

If I were to pick my favorite rimfire it would be my Marlin 39 A, I have 2 of them. But I like all types of 22’s, I have a pump, a semi auto, several bolt actions and a couple martini action single shots and they all have a place to shine.
I also have a Marlin 57 M levermatic in 22 mag and a single shot falling block in 17 HMR.
I once was a very avid squirrel hunter and always preferred head shots with a rimfire rifle instead of using a shotgun. Now I don’t hunt so much with rimfires but do shoot a few yard pests and plink and shoot targets with them.
When I can get my wife to shoot a rifle she likes my fathers old single shot Winchester 67 as you need to load it one at a time and cock it to shoot and she likes that arrangement.
Lately I have bought a couple of value packs of the auto match ammo at Walmart. It’s not bad ammo for being under .05 a round. I still have a good stock of ammo that the others like and even a few boxes of shorts for my Winder musket.
They are all fun !

Favorite carry .22 rifle?
I picked up a Taurus pump Carbine.
Accurate and not bad looking.
I had a Remington 552 that took a few years to suss out its ailements.
Nice carrying rifle and due its history is not a tack driver due an abused chamber.
I have some detachable mag .22's but they arnt my favorite due magazine issues.
In the case of the bolt action tackdriver Stevens Springfield model 84c its the mag retainer, this one tore a hole in my brand new down parka.
Have a Ruger 10/22.
Its ok accurate and reliable when the box mag stays put.
Problem is it drops those box mags when hunting and you end up retracing your steps looking for the mag.
So I take to carrying it in my pocket not long after dropping the mag in the brush a couple times.
Last week it dropped it in soft snow and ended up digging round in powder snow fishing for that mag.
Anotherthing I dont like are folding sights that are prone to breakage.
Thinking of putting a peep on the ruger.
Then again the Rem 552 carrys rather well, clean lines, and I dont have to look for a missing magazine.
Sights are robust and stay put.
Same for that tiny stainless taurus carbine.

I guess the rifle I shoot most is my Mrlin Bolt action with tube mag. and right behind that is a 10/22.
