There have been a lot more ejector 45-70s made than extractors, so it should be easy, look in the H&R Classifieds, there have been many listed, both barrels and complete rifles. It's relatively easy to convert to an ejector by someone handy with powertools or a gunsmith, see the FAQs, Brownells sells the ejector parts, I've done several conversions both ways.

I bought one off the classifieds and traded for another off the classifieds both of them are ejectors. Just keep a close on the classifieds, check them often through out the day.

First ejector models on some chamberings were offered in 2004, most centerfire rifles were extractors by 2007.

I much prefer the extractor, cause .45-70 cases are a pain in the butt to find in 24 inches of snow.  All my Handis, thanks much to Tim, are extractors.  If I need a second shot, the other hand isn't busy trying to catch a case, it has one ready to go.  Pluck it out, stick it in.  I can reload as fast or faster with the extractor, and here, we wear gloves most of the year.  So farewell to those myths.

Tim, while we're on the subject, why doesn't H&R use your version of a better extractor?  Tim has a design for an extractor that really gives you something to grab.  It's just another of those "why don't they do it that way" things.

It's been presented to them along with other great suggestions like a lower profile hammer spur, I've sent pics of simple changes they can make to improve the product, but the powers to be that make those kind of decisions are deaf and/or dumb.  ::)

Tim I assume directions for your extractor are in the FAQ's? Now I'm curious.....
If he's carrying a singleshot, don't expect a warning shot!

I like ejectors for hunting and extractors for just shooting. I've had a few doubles where you could turn the ejector off if wanted but they were some above H&R price point

Me too!  Mine is an ejector and it can be a pain trying to catch the empty with a fishing net at the range but right handy for those few times I missed the deer and needed a second shot. ::)

Except for singles with extractors and that weird Rossie Circuit Judge, just about every other rifle throws brass. Lose a piece of 45-70 brass and you are losing almost a dollar. I pretty much only shoot throwaway brass when it snows at the range.
