Trigger lightning
« on: October 30, 2009, 05:42:33 AM »
Can you still send these guns to the factory to have the triggers lightened??  I bought one new a couple of years ago and the trigger is horrible.

Also...it's a .243.  I've only messed with it a little.  What is the best factory ammo for this gun?  The powershok feds(80gr) and Winchester PP(100gr) were all over the place, so I put it away.  I just found your site.

Thanks from a newbie.

Yep, welcome aboard. I am not sure if Remington is still doing the triggers for free. Even if they do, they will not lower it down to my liking. In the FAQ there is a section on do-it-yourself trigger jobs. Do not be afraid, it is real easy to do and you can get it exactly the way you want it, within reason. If you really mess up you can get more parts and start over. Just take it slow and frequently check as you go - you will be fine. Good Luck and Good Shooting

When re-installing the trigger, I broke the housing, when driving out the slave pin with the permanent pin. Any suggestions of where to get parts? Are metal trigger housings available for the Topper 158, .30/.30? That's the rifle I have.

Here's the Brownell's part... http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/sid=18142/pid=0/sku/Trigger_Guard

Whether it will fit a M158 I don't know, Numrich lists parts for it specifically by serial number. http://e-gunparts.com/products_new.asp?CatID=8099

Tha factory may have some metal trigger guards available, but I wouldn't hold my breath toll free (866)776-9292.

Talley is working on them, but I don't expect them for a while.
