Stopped at Gander Mountain a couple days ago just to look around. Usually don't buy much there except for occasional sale items.
While looking over the gun racks I spotted a synthetic stocked Handi with open sights. Sticker said .44 mag for $249 (new). Price seemed okay, not great but reasonable. I saw the serial prefix was HX so I figured there was a good chance the bore wouldn't be oversize like the older ones.
I thought it would be an SB1, but when I opened it up I could see it had a small firing pin and the inside of the receiver appeared to have a smooth finish - an SB2! Been looking around for a while for either a .30/30 or a cheap used SB2 in any caliber that I could get a .357 barrel on (and ream to Max) and haven't run across any at the right price.
Anyway, I brought this one home. Will make a nice heavy cover deer rifle.
Got it cleaned up and just shot it a few times in the backyard so far. When I took it apart I confirmed it is an SB2 - frame matches the pictures in the FAQ's (great info there!!).
Have to work up a load and decide what scope to put on it, probably either a Weaver K3 or a Simmons 2X shotgun scope, but not sure yet.
Will try to post some pics after I get it put together and report on how it shoots.
