I do not have any fitted barrels, mine are all factory fitted. I have 2 frames with 3 barrels each. I think most of the horror stories come from folks that send in their frames with what they want with out first calling to verify barrel availability. Unfortunately, I do not think the CS people in NY have as much knowledge as the CS people did in Massachusetts. When I say that I mean they do not really know well what is available, or they maybe available, but sell out before your frame comes up to be fitted. I think in Mass. they were physically closer to the barrel supply so they knew for sure what was available. So the first thing is to call to make sure the barrel is available and find out if they have very many left in stock. You may have to wait a few months to get your desired barrel (s), especially the more popular ones. They make runs, not continuous production on barrels. I got my 357 barrel this way. I really wanted a 44 Mag barrel, but they were out, so I substituted the 357 barrel for it, which was available. Once you are satisfied they have the barrel you want then record the serial number, package your frame up very well and send it in with your money order or credit card information. You might also ask how long a wait can be expected when you have CS on the phone so that you know what to expect. Be patient with them, they deal with hundreds of calls a week and being nasty will not help your situation. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar and you will get better and more accurate information, when you keep your cool. Of course we hear about the folks that have had bad experiences, when you are upset, you want to spout of about it, because you are pissed off. There is nothing to shout out when you get what you want in a timely manner. Tim follows this much closer than I do and knows at least one person at NY, I am sure he can really give you the straight scoop on getting accessory barrels. Good Luck and Good Shooting
