What Sanford did is nothing new. Jefferson was dilly-dallying with one of his slaves over 200 years ago. So politicians have been messing around like this for years.  gypsyman

Yup!  And Jefferson is considered to be a founder of the Democrat Party.  How about Grover Cleveland?  He was the first democrat elected in years following the War Between the States, and ended up admitting to fathering a child out of wedlock--a big deal back in those days.  He was married at the time, too.

The rep party , leave to start a new one instead of taking it back . Of course it would take changing the way most voters think , getting rid of speical intrest , re educating all who missed basic GOVT and American history . Reinstating God in Govt. A complete shift back to Americanism .
No doubt an up hill climb and maybe not do-able but still a shame none the least .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

They gave up on people like me, you can't push a rope. I would say that in my case continuing to vote for them for 20 years after they have given up on me is enough patience & enough of giving them a chance. You are talking about totally changing a Party/Machine/System well entrenched with corruption & this being done with at most 10 true , decent Conservatives. It is far more doeable for the few like Palin, RP, DH & the few others to break away & let the sludge drift downstream. However, if those few can change the entire thing with seemingly insurmountable odds I would rejoice for sure, but I don't see it happening.

think Govr. Palin !
Lets face it, she's not the answer. If we want to have a Rep back in the White House we have to move on. Yup, I like that she hunts and is pro gun but we need that and more.

I concur. She isn't what we need either. She has some good talking points, but not the leader we need. We need a strong fiscal conservative with some real morals and hard line stance on illegals, spending, foreign relations, and less government for all.

What surprises me is that a Governor can leave the country and nobody, whether his own security, or any newshound wasn't aware* of it, I presume he didn't take a Govt. jet for his trip.

I presume a number of people knew where he was and what he was up to, this wasn't a one weekend stunt.

Even a Governor can disappear very easily if he wants to.  Just quietly buy a plane ticket, and go.

Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

A news hound was aware of it.  That is how we found out about it.  A cop tipped off a newsie that the governators car was at an Sc airport.

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) – The black Chevy Suburban believed to have been used by South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford to leave town has been found in the parking lot of Columbia Metropolitan Airport.

CNN was alerted to its location by a law enforcement official.

Sanford is expected to return to Columbia tomorrow after a mysterious six-day absence. His office has said the governor, a possible 2012 presidential candidate, has been hiking the Appalachian Trail to clear his head after a tough legislative session.

The SUV is outfitted with blue police lights and two-way radio. Inside the vehicle: A baseball cap, running shoes, sunscreen, a pair of shorts, a canvas bag and a sleeping bag.

A parking permit for the school attended by Sanford’s children is visible on the windshield.

The governor said he cut his trip short after his chief of staff, Scott English, told him his trip was gaining a lot of media attention and he needed to come back.

When asked why his staff said he was on the Appalachian Trail, Sanford replied, "I don't know."

Sanford later said "in fairness to his staff," he had told them he might go hiking on the Appalachian Trial.

Sanford said he decided not to return via the Columbia airport to avoid the media. The State Media Company was the only media who greeted Sanford this morning.

"I don't know how this thing got blown out of proportion," Sanford said.

This same thinking gave us Obama.  Voting for people who cannot get elected, will ensure we always get the worst possible choice in the end.
