Carbon Tax and Trade Tariffs
Global Warming is So Much Hyped. Do You Know There is NO Scientific Evidence to Prove it?
Many support the carbon tax and trade tariffs now being discussed in Congress as a way to stop carbon dioxide emissions and the supposed harm to the environment. Global warming is what it is called. However, there is no scientific proof that it exists. The editors of INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY (IBD; June 17) and many credible scientists have this opinion. Global warming is a simply an assumption, lacking any evidence, advanced by Gore and the scientists who get their support from groups that mistakenly back the concept. The earth and universe are billions of years old. What we are seeing is just a blip on the time line. In the ‘60s, the US Navy warned us of the return of another ice age overcoming us again because they found ocean temperatures going down. The only thing that happened was that it was great for fish: their numbers exploded because krill etc (their food) grew like mad.
The flaw that IBD cites is that the environmentalists all argued for mass transit as the best way to have transportation for the masses. They argued that removing cars, trucks, and planes would eliminate a great amount of pollution, carbon dioxide that is causing the warming. Well, the scientists found out just recently that that is not the case. As an aside we can confidently say that carbon dioxide is not a pollutant.
Engineers from University of California, Chester and Horvath, demolished the cherished view that public transportation will have a smaller carbon print that private cars, trucks and planes. Private automobiles have a smaller print than public modes of transport. How?
Well, of course when you measure tail pipe emissions of a car or SUV versus a train or bus, the carbon output is great. However, one should measure everything involved in transport to get a fair idea of carbon prints. These two engineers looked at the full life cycle of eleven modes of transportation and tailpipe emissions. They got a clear picture of things by examining emissions discharged in building the infrastructure and maintaining it over its lifetime, building the car, train or plane and what it takes to run them.
In brief, they found that the carbon footprint of rail was greater than that of cars and light trucks. When passenger numbers are considered, cars and light trucks are even more green that the rails. In addition, rail compares poorly when compared to cars in sulfur dioxide pollutant. A real toxin to people. Maybe we need to look at this a lot more. SUVs may not be dinosaurs after all.
