Currently in the 45 LC I am getting nearly 1600fpe with a 250 grn XTP in my Contender pistol.  I'm not sure but I have heard that the Handi rifles can be loaded up along the same guidlines as the Contender.  Now I definately won't just drop one of my contender loads in this Handi, but I will work up a load for it and report back here for anyone interested.

Anyone know if the Survivor in 45LC/.410 is drilled and tapped for a scope?  If not, can it be?  Dealer said it was, but the web page doesn't mention it.

Welcome to GBO! The Handrifle is factory available in many chamberings that can't be chambered in a Contender, 30-06, 270 Win, 280 Rem, 500 S&W just to name a few, if that gives you and idea of their strength comparison. The Survivor 45/410 barrel has only a front bead, but could be D&Td by a gunsmith.  H&R offers the 45 Colt Carbine which is capable handling Ruger/FA/TC loads, and Casull if a person wanted to have one rechambered, it's been discussed a lot, I've considered it on mine, but for now I'm happy with 250gr bullets at a little over 1900fp at over 2000fpe at the muzzle, with the 250gr SST, it makes it 200yd deer capable. ;)

I had a "Survivor" with the 45/410 barrel and strangely it was NOT factory drilled and tapped. just the brass bead. I had mine D/T'  ed and tried a red dot and then a 1.5to 4X compact scope on it with satisfactory results, but I think the .454 casull or the plain 45 colt Handi barrel would be a better choice That 45/410 makes for a LONG chamber throat.
If your kid is hunting Whitetails, the 45LC with that 22 inches of barrel makes for a pretty impressive Deer ctg its self.

Nothing strange about it, that's that just way they're all made.

Thanks for the great welcome Tim.

So is the Survivor frame the same as the others?  Can it be fitted with other barrels?

That is some impressive power out of your LC.  What powder?  If memory serves me right, I use H110 and 2400 but I'd like to try some VV as it has been good to me with many other calibers.

You're welcome, glad to have you here!

The Survivor 45/410 comes on an SB1 shotgun frame, so it would be limited to shotgun or muzzleloader barrels only, the SB1 frame isn't made of the same material and isn't heat treated as is the SB2 rifle frame which is investment cast alloy.

I use Hodgdon Lil'gun in all of my pistol chamberings, it provides great velocity at somewhat lower pressures compared to H110 and H4227. ;)

If you like the Survivor stock, it can be mounted on the SB-2 rifle receiver.  All of the NEF stocks are interchangeable.  Most are available from the factory as an accessory.  They be come available in the classifieds section here also.

So what has been the consensus about reaming the 45 lc out to a 454 Casull?  Still shoot the 45 LC well?  Thinking about a 45lc barrel for my new handi.  I have the 45-70 now.
