What kind of stock is that? It is a what?
« on: October 07, 2008, 07:27:45 AM »
I have been thru the Handi Basics and the FAQ but have yet to find out what some of the verbiage means when some posters are describing a stock.  I know what a "Monte Carlo" rise is on a stock.  I know composite materials (plastics) from wood.  I also know what a thumbhole stock is, vs pistol grip, or straight.   What the &^%$ is "Pallet" wood?  I keep thinking of wooden pallets, or junky soft woods of some kind (fir, yellow pine, etc).  Is "Pallet" wood a Laminated wood?  Are you talking about a Laminated wood stock?

Where can I find Handi Rifle Stock Type 101?

Thanks for the replies.  Now when I see a "pallet wood" stock for sale I will think of the maple colored hardwood factory stocks.  When I go by one of the pallet factories around here, I will not drool thinking of all the stocks I could make with that soft fir and pine scrap they are using.

Thanks again.

The problem I found refinishing my pallet wood stock was the grain filler H&R used on the wood.It looks like cheap brown paint, and it's a bitch to get off! But once you get down to raw pallet wood, you can stain and seal and have at least a better looking  stock than the factory sent out. Also, there is plenty of wood there so you can shape to your liking. I reshaped and fluted the comb, and thinned the stock toward the butt, and it feels like a whole new rifle!

Pallet wood stripped (their poly was flaking), lightly sanded, pores filled, stained with Minwax mahogany, and coated Minwax satin spar polyurethane.

I rest my case...you end up with decent looking wood you aren't afraid to take out and hunt with.
