I like the regular old 22" Handi Rifle.  It will whackem-n-stackem!  Nicer wood can be added later.

hey swampman:

That's nice wood on yours. But I like the straight BC stock and fore end. I like the idea of shooting trapdoor loads and enjoying shootin' without a bruisin'.

I handled a XLR in 450 on Saturday. No 45/70's are left or I would have bought one on the spot I like it so much. The Handi will be a project gun like my other two Handi's. And i am not going to forget that Hornet in the fancy black and yellow stock.

Thanks for all the input on this one fellas

I haven't been around awhile, but still shootin my Handies. I dropped a 8 pt 180 lb buck this year and a 100 lb doe both with my 22" handi .45-70, 405gr cast bullets lopeing along at around 1500 fps or so,  The doe was at about 30 yrds knocked her down she mostly just laid there. The buck was at 150 yrds or more at a trot, My shot wasn't the best I hit his front legs but he stopped the second shot (and yes you can reload a single shooter quick) took out his backbone. I was walking back to the cabin  and he came up behind me chasing does, a quick snap shot offhand at a trotting buck..... I'll take some ribbin about the bad shot but there's meat in the freezer and a mount being made. Love my .45-70, and my max and my mag and whell you know. ;D

I took a look at the Guide Gun.  The price is good and it looks really nice.  Maybe I'll get one.  The Rossi .454 is interesting too.

Hey Mac:

Great pair!! My XLR should arrive this week from Calgary. And I will be going ahead with the Handi in February when the iron sights are available. I was going to get the BC stocks but those grey lams of yours make a nice matched set! By the way I got the Lyman powder dispenser just like yours for Christmas.
