Canadian trade deal off--again
« on: August 25, 2026, 07:35:36 AM »
Well, just when some trade and tariffs have been ironed out between the U.S. and Canada, surprise, nope. Seems Howard Lutnick didn't like the lower tariffs that the General Motors plant in Ontario were getting on trucks, they should only apply to automobiles. So, back to the drawing board. Canada says it's up to us to come back to the table, as all was in agreement. Sure are lucky that Lutnick didn't go to work on 9-11 at one of the Twin Towers he had a business in, and got hired by Trump as a cabinet member, or maybe this deal would have been signed and business could have gone on.
We keep trying peace, it usually doesn't work!!Remember(12/7/41)(9/11/01) gypsyman

Much of the problem is the competing political systems. While the US is of course, basically Capitalim, Canada tends to follow British Socialism.

The snag starts when much of an economy is based upon the "central planners" in Ottawa. For instance, Canadian milk producers are each allotted as to how much milk they could produce for market.

It is a natural impulse of farmers to have as productive a herd as possible, so a percentage of their milk produced, is handled the good, old Socialist central planners way.  ....It's DUMPED!  ...Millions of gallons per year!

The end result is that there is a very high tariff upon American produced milk & milk products, and Trump's feathers were ruffled by Canada's 250% tariff on American produced milk

...And milk was not alone, though it may have led the pack. To get around the current kerfuffle, I went back to very early 2025, before our newly elected president was doing basic cleanup, and was only beginning to consider tariffs.

in Socialism's government "managed economies", it is awkward to deal with capitalist nations, where cost of commodities fluctuate, and natural shortages or abundance move the markets and spur producers.

There is a vast difference between allowing the market to find it's own level or government dictating how much any one farmer can produce !

How would some bureaucrat in Ottawa know better how to manage a herd, than a farmer managing his herd out in Stone Mills or Peterborough ?

...Just more proof how inane socialism is.

How Canada's Milk Tariffs (really) Work
Duty-Free Limits: Under trade rules like the United States?Mexico?Canada Agreement (USMCA), American dairy farmers can send a set amount of milk and dairy into Canada without paying taxes.
High Over-Quota Rates: If imports go over that set amount, Canada charges high penalty taxes that can reach 240% to 300%.
Rarely Paid: Exporters rarely go over the allowed limit, so companies almost never pay these high penalty rates.
Supply Management: Canada uses this quota system to protect its own dairy farmers and keep local milk prices steady.

Sorry; but you need better references than "fact checkers", who seem to have their own "facts". I don't trust any "fact checkers" any more!  The bias by "fact checkers" has been very evident for years.

I think we all have known this, although some refused to admit it !  Congress has proven so in recent hearings,. Did you observe the clowns at SPLC try to explain away their all too obvious prejudices?

  Here, AI explains:

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has been utilized as a fact-checking source by various media outlets, including Wired. However, it has faced criticism for perceived bias, particularly in its reporting on extremist groups and hate crimes
.

SPLC's Role as a Fact Checker
The SPLC's involvement in fact-checking has raised several points of discussion.

Bias Concerns ? The SPLC is often described as significantly biased, particularly towards liberal perspectives, which affects its credibility as a fact-checker.
Media Usage ? Outlets like Wired have employed the SPLC for fact-checking, despite the criticisms surrounding its bias.
Informant Program ? The SPLC previously operated an informant program to gather intelligence on hate groups, which has led to scrutiny regarding its methods.
Public Perception ? The SPLC's reputation has been impacted by allegations of bias, leading some to question its reliability in fact-checking.

Wasnt the southern propaganda law center recently under investigation for bribing white supremacy members in order to make themselves relevant?
