So.......Boyds is where the thumb hole stocks are coming from?

Yea, that one looks like Birch stained in Walnut to my eye. Better finish job than Handis factory..........but Birch rather than Walnut.

WELL, All my groveling over those beautiful Yellow/gray lams has paid off!!! Matt read my post and PMed me with an identical set he was going to sell!! I scooped them right up and sent him the cash so fast it surprised him!!! he shipped them Monday and lo and BEHOLD, THEY ARRIVED HERE TODAY!!

THANK YOU MATT!!!

I decided to put them on my rim fire receiver.

I also moved the 243 thumb holes on to the HORNET and put the factory cinn lambs on the 243.

Boyd's is making those stocks for H&R, there was a dealer on Ebay selling them, that's where most everyone got theirs, I did buy a 243 Ultra t-hole that is a factory offering, it's not on their web page tho, they're also available on the USHs.

Kudos's to everyone who has posted here. Not a bad one in the bunch. I often use the examples pictured here for inspiration.

That TDC is one of my favorites. It is one of 2500 in a special run for NWTF Banquets for 2007 and sports a 30" barrel. Throws one heck of a turkey pattern at 40 yards, too!!

Top to Bottom: 20 ga Pardner first gun

, next is .45/70 BC, then my newest, the .22 Hornet, then the .243 that hasn't been shot in a year

and last my little .223 that has never let me down and usualy gets to ride with me more than the others, but lately the BC and hornet have been taking its place. Just thought I would throw em up here!

I'm trying this to see if I can post like I want. This is my converted Youth Handi .243. It now has GSI Fiddleback Maple Stinger stock and the Target/Varmint forend, Morgan adjustable recoil pad, Baush&Lomb BalVar 6X24 scope mounted with Weaver #82 scope mount.

Here are my two Handi's a 257 Roberts and a 6x47 the 6x47 is shown with two
scopes and different mounts. Both barrel are 24" octagon. The scopes are 3-9 Sightron, 4-12 Bushnell, and the 6.5-20x50 Burris on the 6x47 replaced the Bushnell.

I got a question for you.... What do you do to get your stocks so shiny and smooth looking? I am hopefully getting a new stock tonight and of course I will have to finish it and I was just looking for some advice from someone who has done it before. Thanks!

Start with sanding the stock smooth, without rounding any edges. Brush or blow
off the dust and wet the stock to raise the grain. Let dry well and sand the wiskers off with a sharp new piece of 400 paper.

Wet the stock again and do the same thing let dry and sand. Blow off all sanding dust. Get a role of 3/4" scotch tape and wrap it around your four finger with the
sticky side out. Wrap until you have a sticky sleeve abvout 2" wide and go over the whole stock with the sticky sticky side.

This will remove any embedded dust particles. You are now ready to apply
Birchwood Casey True oil with a bit of turpentine added to slightly thin it down for the first and second coat.

Each coat is sanded down to the wood and the dust removed with the tacky scotch tape. Use the oil sparingly with no visible build up. Do this until all pores are filled
and the grain starts to look good. The number of coats depends on the wood.

Apply the finish with a lint free cloth made into a ball, apply the oil to the cloth ball
and rub in on the stock with out build up. Let each coat dry good.You will know
when the stock is finished,always sand in between coats and use the tacky tape
after before a new coat goes on. Ten thin coats should do it.

This will make a finish that is in the wood and is easy to touch up when damaged.

You can do the same with Linspeed oil.

Please tell me more about this "webbing paint" seems like something I may want to try.

It's made by Krylon and in spray cans. You should be able to get it at you local Wally World, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. Put on a base color coat, then spray on the web. Not hard at all.
