I had a chance to finish up a couple of projects today and start some new ones the first is a sneek peek at a new cannon I'm going to offer. It will be a golf ball sized Coehorn mortar. Ain't she Cute! The overall length will be about 4 1/4 inches and it will have a welded on trunnion that is 3 1/4" long and 3/4" in doameter. This was machined out of 1018 shaft and features a 3/4 X 3/4 powder chamber. I don't have the trunnion welded on yet. I ran out of time today. I'll get it when I get back. I will be out of town for six or seven days. This is a modified version of the barrel that George entered in the cannon making contest.

I decided to Braze the first one togather. Here are some Pictures.

I'm pre heating the barrel in this picture.

The tube is hot enough to sweat the brass onto. This picture showes it being applied.

Red Hot!!! After the brass was applied to the tube I placed the trunnion bar on it and heated the whole works up untill the brass sweated onto the bar.

Aaaahhhh - HAH!

I notice the cutting tourch to get the whole rig HOT enough. Good technique!

Have you tried silver solder? I've found it melts at a lower temperature (tried it on the small mortars - .30 and .50 cal - of 17-4 stainless).

Nice blue from heating too.

I cleaned up the barrel after Brazing. Here is a picture of my settup for drilling the vent hole. I used 2 parrallels to space the trunnion up off the vive to get the propper angle.

Look for this tube going up for auction soon. Have to let the paint dry, so I can get some good pictures.
