Scope Suggestion for .308 Custom Barrel
« on: March 12, 2006, 03:52:10 AM »
After waiting many months, my Encore .308, 24" light tapered, custom barrel is finally on the way.

I would appreciate any scope suggestions for this barrel.  It will be used primarily for deer but possibly other game as well like coyote and maybe black bear.  The ranges I would shoot in my area would most likely be between 50-200 yards.  Maybe  300 yards in the fields max.

I prefer Leupold variable scopes so any suggestion on what type, magnification, etc would be greatly appreciated.  Experienced rifle hunters opinions are especially requested.  They just opened up my area to rifle hunting after 50 + years of shotgun only.  I'm an experienced deer hunter but not with HP rifles.  I've had to pass on standing trophy bucks several times over the years because they were too far out to make a reliable hit with a slug gun.

Thanks

A VXII 3X9X40mm or a VXIII 3.5X10X40 Leupold would be my choice.  :D

Thanks.  I was leaning towards the 3x9 .  Just wanted to hear what other rifle hunters would use.

Straight 4x or 6x--plenty of scope
