I did a lot of varmint bullet testing with the .270 several years ago, and learned that in the right rifle the .270 can make a very good varmint cartridge to at least 300 yards.  The biggest negative is recoil - you can shoot a lot more with the smaller cartridges without getting a sore shoulder.  But if you're after coyote, then that isn't a concern.

I had best luck with the 110-grain and 90-grain Sierras.  These gave best accuracy in my barrel, could be driven pretty fast, and were soft enough to expand.  The 90-grainer has a very poor BC so it is not the best bullet for beyond 300 yards.  I did not try the Hornady 110-grain V-Max but if it shoots accurately in your rifle it would be an excellent choice.    :D

Hi i loaded some Hornday 110gr V-max in the 270 and it makes a GOOD coyote rd for one of my friends . If fur damage isnt any concern then try them. I have another friend and he likes the 90gr bullets. I am shooting Win 90gr PEP ammo in my 25 06 and going to move to a 85gr BT when i get the 90gr ammo shoot up for the brass. VM :D

My 1971 Remington 700 ADL .270 is the most accurate rifle I own.

Its accuracy with Sierra 90 grain HPs is phenomenal.  I handload them moderately hot and they are the devil's hammer on woodchucks.

Don't expect to save the hide with these - but you'll get a clean and quick kill.

Best wishes,

Harold

The 270 winchester is a fine gun for deer and like sized game, But its going to be a little rough on yotes, If you are not saving the pelts it don't matter. After a while you will probably want something a little lighter like a 22-250 or 223 which will be more fun to shoot. :D  good luck.........Joe.........
