The ones from Lsi come with that black finish. Which I immediatly stripped off and put a nice Tru Oil finish on. From what ive found its luck of the draw on the wood. My dads 92 has great lookin wood and my 44 is just plain jane, but still looks better than the black finish that was on them.

Steve, both look good  (well, your Dad's does look great ).  And those pics are too.  Partly your fault I have that EMF.     Oh, hey, did I say thanks for that??        :D

Hi John:D  :D  :D I bet that 44 Special is sweet as all get out. Very nice looking rifle you got there! From my experience the Rossi's are fantastic rifles and you just cant go wrong with one.

JD,just use Strip Eaze or simular stripper to get the balck stuff off. You may have to add a second coat and scraper that black sludge off. Then you want to seal the stock. I use Tru Oil cut with mineral spirits and make sure you get all the inletting buttstock. Actually I seal everything!!! Now you want to make sure this is dry.I dont wait weeks like some folks do but I give it a couple days to dry. Then I finish the stock and forearm with straight Tru Oil. If I can do it anyone can do it and it gives nice results.I feel that the less sanding you do the better thats why I use stripper to get the majority of the finish off. Now you may need to sand lightly after sealing the  stock to eliminate whiskers sticking out of the wood. But thats about it. Type gunstock refinishing in Google and there is tons of info to be had on this very subject....Good Luck.....Steve.

doctordisaster, nice set-up. Did your rifle have the saftey on it?

Yes sir, and still does. There's plenty of room. The little green S on the bolt is where the saftey is.

I have two, a .44 and a .357.  Both are great shooters and their actions were waaaayyyy better than any out of the box Winchester and better than most Marlins.  They are accurate, function great and look good.  They have really nice hard wood that is finished very dark and could stand to be stripped and lightened up a bit.
The only fault I have with them is the real sight which the installation of a Marbles buckhorn fixes in a couple of minutes.
They are drilled for tang sights which also works great.
They are a great value and are a quality product!
