170 for an unpainted stock seems OK to me. Not dirt cheap, but less than half of the original cost of the gun. My hesitation is because I still would not have an acutrigger.
Yes, I was aware of the aluminium bedding in the SSS stock. That is what is appealing to me. I would get one unpainted, and just put a simple paint job on it myself. I dont want something sexy or flashy like the benchrest shooters have. I want something I can bang around in my tree stand and sling over my shoulder in the woods. My hunting gun will not be babied, not abused, but it must be servicable in the field subjected to the elements. This is one reason I like the ugly savage stock. However, the bad finish on it doesnt handle dings very well, it chips.
With that, is there a durable paint for synthetic stocks, or just re-apply
