Wipe-out and Others for cleaning
« on: September 12, 2005, 03:23:59 PM »
Has anyone here used something called Wipe-Out for cleaning their bores from copper fouling?  Also, how about Outer's Foaming Bore Cleaner?

Someone has suggested these, but I am leary.  I almost feel heretical even considering giving up my trusted Hoppe's and Kroil, with a JB Bore Compound chaser for a really fouled bore.

So, how about it?  Is this WipeOut or Outer's Foaming Bore Cleaner as good as they say?   :?

Wipe Out

I used wipe out on an old M48 Mauser that had a pretty dirty bore. This was after two weeks of daily cleaning with conventional bore cleaners. The conventional stuff was just not getting the job done. After two applications of wipe out, tremendous progress was achieved in cleaning the bore on that old Milsurp.

Hoppes and/or Kroil are great for powder and primer fouling, but they just dont have the "poop" to get rid of the copper.  I have not personally tried Wipe Out, but I do use Outers and Gunslick foaming bore cleaners and they actually work as advertised.  In fact, they cut cleaning time tremendously, especially when trying to remove the copper.  Give em a try, I dont think you will be disappointed.

I like Wipe-Out as an overnight soaker. Copper dribbles out the muzzle in a dark blue ooze. I do the normal solvent brushing first though.

It's also nice sometimes to fill a rifle's barrel full of this stuff while still warm from a match and let it soak during the drive home.

My two cents

I use Wipe-out.  Easy to use.  Let it stay in the bore a couple hours, then clean it out with a patch soaked with any solvent (no brush) .  Very effective at removing copper fouling -- better than any other copper cleaner I have personally tried.
