ah, but coburn came up with the financing to take savage - and savage alone - private, out of that 1995 deal.
and mossberg and savage rifles still are NOTHING alike, other than being magazine fed turn bolt repeaters.

I kind of like the different colored stocks.   It seems all guns will be sold in black plastic including the BB gun I just bought my daughter.  Think about it before you make your gun black like everyone else's.

I just camo'ed my favorite rifle because it was black and stood out when I hunted with it.

Wow SLAVAGE!! $229 or $239 with Scope and Rings, I am in for that man  I live in Pittsburgh also. My nearest Dick`s is South Hills Village, only a few miles from my house :D Thanks-Jack. P.S. I hope they have that price on the .270 Cal.

mounted a 3-9x40 Bushnell Trophy scope with millet rings (i avoid the scope killing torque in these rings by taking the screw out of the same side of each ring and tightening them the same amount on the same side of the scope. works great.)

my stevens 200 .243 shot a 75 grain hollowpoint into a half inch at 100 yards after a few "finding the range" shots.

it gets hot fast due to the thin sporter barrel but when i let it cool it resumed shooting tiny groups. i am very happy.

i used a sharp pocketknife to trim the flashing and mold marks off the stock and then used steel wool to smooth it out. feels great.

I am very impressed. this $279 rifle shoots better groups than my bull barrel $500 encore.

I may need to buy more of these things. lol

Well guys,a few days ago i poster that Dicks sporting goods had made a mistake and i put a 30.06 Stevens 200 with simmons scope on lay-a-way for $269.Well,i was in there tonight to pick her up and guess what ? They had lowered the price of the gun to $239 ! Hot dang,a perfectly good brand new rifle with scope( yes,its a cheap 3x9x40) for $239.I'm beside myself. What a deal.Gander mountain just lowered their price to $259 without a scope.Dick's only had 2 of these rifles left. One in 30.06 and one in .270 Win.

as soon as i heard you got that deal with the scope i called the nearest dicks to me and they said they didnt even carry the gun. lol

hmmm? maybe the guy didnt know what he was talking about or maybe he was like one of those guys they use in sporting goods in wal mart, you know, the ones who fail at paintmixing and they send em from hardware to sports? lol

The way it was explained to me was like this. They were supposed to offer the gun as a package deal with the scope at a certain price.Someone in the store mgmt screwed up and priced the package at the regular non-scoped price of $269...same as Gander mountain which is 1/2 mile away.Well,Gander just lowered their price for un-scoped 200 to $259.Dick's ,since they only have two such rifles in stock(package with scope) countered by lowering their price on their two remaing guns(mine and a 270 win) to $239.I reaped the benefits. If i had the cash i'd buy the 270 and resell it or give it to my nephew. All i know is my future wife is very happy because the gun i really wanted was a $650 Browning BLR in 300 Wsm and since we're saving for a May 06 wedding-well,you can see her point. But,next year....i get the browning ! lol

Shooter. you'd better buy them both NOW because next year, all your guns will become what machinegunners call "Pre-May Samples"  :-D

There won't be any new ones for you after May if you're like most of us!

Just a recommendation  :D

AMEN!!! :-D

Yeah I got married before I had a chance to get all the toys I wanted.  It's like trying to pull teeth now (or trying to convince your wife to let you buy another gun).

Guys,
My 1st wife was like that, matter of fact she was a bleeding heart liberal anti-gun supporter.Never again i vowed. This one knows me and accepts my wiley ways. She even bought me a stealth cam a few weeks ago to monitor my bear/deer hunting areas. She goes out with me to place it and put some stink bait out so i can get some preseason pictures of some black bear. She isnt against hunting ,she enjoys venison and has suggested to my best man that he take me out on some budget game preserve hunt in place of a bachelor party. Now,thats my kind of woman ! Guess where the honeymoon is going to be ? If you guessed an Alaskan shoreline cruise next June, you'd be right.Sure i'll have to work some overtime for my future toys but that gives me some incentive to work 12 days on and 2 days off. LoL

Yea,i figured you fellas were probably correct so i went back to Gander Mt. today and bought this sweet little 4 5/8 inch Ruger blackhawk (blue with yellow horn grips) in 357 mag for $219 including a 1 year protection plan. Now i wont feel so lonely when i go out to set up my stealth cam to get pictures of black bears.Kinda felt alone packing my Grandads old 9 shot break open H&R 22LR if ya know what i mean.Hunting season fast approaches.
