This is very common and even desired for the correct fit. On a right handed stock as an example if the stock is offset away from the face this is "cast-off" if the stock is offset where the stock is closer to the face this is "cast-on"./ The two most common are cast-off for a right handed shooter and cast-on for a left handed shooter. This gives the shooter a more centralized sight picture and positions the eye directly in line with the sight's for a "Repeatable" sight picture.
