Sanders knife question.
« on: February 18, 2003, 12:20:07 AM »
This is a knife with the name "Sanders"  on the blade (other side). It appears to be either laser or chemically etched in the steel. Overall length is 9" and the blade is 4.5". I've been told it's a custom job but haven't found much about this maker as of yet. Hope this image upload works.

Sanders knife question.

Well, I looked up Sanders in the custom knife directory, an the only one listed who uses only his name as his maker's mark is A.A. Sanders out of Norman, OK.  The two others listed use name/state, name/city/state.  He's listed as a maker of Working straight knives and folders. Makes hunters, fighters,daggers and bowies.  Forges damascus and grinds a bunch of other stainless and carbon steels.  Prices range from $85-$1500.  Did a seach on his name and found a couple of his fancy damascus folders at a couple of the knife auction site, so he's still active(started in 1982).  Couldn't find a website for him(at least not on Netscape).  Doesn't mean he made your knife, but there's all kinds of maker's out there not listed in the directory.  Your knife looks to be handmade; what I'd call a small fighter/boot design.  Can't tell the steel type, but the handle scales are dymondwood, if you haven't already figured that out.  It's hard to identify a knifemaker when only a name is on the blade and there's no catalog/website to go to. 'Course he may have a paper catalog, and if you want to take a chance that he's your maker, I can send you his address/phone number. Or you can post your query/picture at one of the big knife sites like bladeforums.com or Customknifedirectory.com.

Joel;
Thanks for the reply. I found a list of knife makers somewhere on the internet a few months ago with the name Sanders but not much of any info or a website/e-mail addess to go to. I don't know that much about knives. I'm more of a gun nut. I'll take a better pic of that knife showing the other side and post it on the other websitesyou mentioned.
Thanks again.
