OK. How many of you turkey hunt with a handgun and with what caliber? .22mag, 17 HMR, .32, or what? I am thinking that a Super Single six in .22mag or 17HMR would be the berries.

I have shoot 3 or 4 of them with a .44 MAG. Black hawk. :grin: They just say you cant leave them in the field, they didnt say you cant throw them away when you get home.

No, for real though. I give them to my dogs. But, I did shoot them with the .44MAG.

9mm, 44 Sp and 45 ACP work just fine. .22Mag will knock them down, but not out. Very unreliable. Have had them hit the ground, play dead a minute then run like h*ll before I could get to them. Leaves no blood trail either. They don't run from the others. Don't need maggies or HP's, just a good solid cast bullet at decent speed.

In maine we aren't allowed to use a handgun, we have two seasons. In the spring season we can use either a shotgun or a bow and are only allowed to take a tom. In the fall season we are only allowed to use a bow and we can take either sex.

I've taken turkey with a 12 ga, a 20 ga, a 357 with a hardcast bullet that just went right on through and a 45 auto (when he thought I didn't see him). Most often though it is with a 22 and it doesn't seem to matter if it is a rifle or my Ruger MkII - some have fled the inevitable dinner invitation after a hit from the 22, but they sure didn't flee far. In Alabama pistol has to be .40 and up.Am really surprise that in some states you could use .22 :eek: ..........Rick

I have never taken a turkey with a handgun. Shotguns of course, a couple with .22 WMR rifles but now my preferred method of choice for turkey hunting is one of my pellet rifles. Works great. Lawdog
