I have a quite a few hunting rifles and I just bought a new one.  I bought it for hunting up in the adirondacks.  Where you walk a lot more than you shoot, Plus I'm over 50 and have a few too many pounds.  I bought a Ruger light weight in a .270 and added a 4X Nikon buckmaster scope.  I dismantled the trigger and honed it on a knive sharpening stone according to the directions I've read on here.  It was easy to do, I used a trigger guage and did it slowly so as not to overdo it.  I also lapped the scope rings before sighting in.  I haven't used the rifle to hunt deer yet.  But it shoots nice and feels like you're carrying a .22 magnum.  Ruger offers it in several calibers.  I'm real happy with it.

I'd look for an older Sako in 308 or 270 winchester...A high Quality used gun is a better value in my opinion...I found an old sako hunter in 270 a few years back I wanted to convert it to 35 Whelen..Well I shot the thing just for ha ha s ...One hole groups with that old sporter at 100yds..I was so impressed I cancelled the custom barrel for it..Found a newer SS Savage 270 sporter & converted it to the Whelen cartridge by myself..Keep your eyes open for older well cared for guns...I think they represent the best value/quality for the money...You can add a syn stock to most any gun these days for short money..mike in ct

The Sako 75 is a fantastic out-of-the-box rifle and would suggest having the custom shop chamber it for .257 Weatherby.
WWJD?(What Would Jimi Do?)

Which Gun

Depends on how much money you want to spend.  Savage is putting out a good gun, I don't have one but several people do and they say they love it.
