just wondering what you guys fed your rifled tubes, If you roll your own or purchase premade, I have seen the rounds for sale, but they are way out of budget.

WELCOME to the forum!  I'm sure that most, but not all, of us shoot smoothbore.  So I'll leave the question standing for the individual or two that do shoot rifled bores to comment.

What do you shoot?  Post pictures if available!

Kind of depends on what kind of cannon you have.  I made a Lyman-style bullet mould for a 1.18" Minie ball for a rifled gun I have.  I do not think the skirt expands enough to work properly.  If you have a rifled muzzle loader, you have a problem.  A breech loader is easier to deal with.

Thank you ,this a great site ! I have a couple .50 models that were past down to me, I always wanted to get a big boy and I have been squirreling away my pennies for awile now, and while browsing some of the retailers I saw a few rifled barrels, was just wondering what the feasibility of keeping one fed would be.

In some ways the differences are very small - you can fire 6 to 8 rounds per hour, they make lots of smoke and loud noise, and you get the stench of sulpher all over when cleaning them!

Bigger bore just means bigger noise, heavier things to carry, more problems finding a loooonger range on which to shoot.

But the 100 yard range with a 50 cal cannon can be lots of fun.  I'm fixing up a home-made cannon that I got in a trade.  I'll rebore it from 50 to something like 69 cal so I can use common bullet moulds (the bore is a little rough).  But the idea of lining it with a rifled bore is cool!

One of my guns is rifled but it ain't worth the bother. I load it with an undersize round ball and shoot it as if it were a smoothbore. Accuracy is pretty good even at the occasional 500 yard target.
