New offerings from TC for 2005
« on: January 22, 2005, 07:12:54 AM »
Although I don't have a 2005 catalog from TC yet I did receive a new distributor catalog that has these new items.

Encore
Two new 26" blue heavy barrels in 6.8 Rem and .375 JDJ.  I really don't understand these two cartridges in a 26" rifle barrel.  The 6.8 Rem is a new round (.277) designed for AR type rifles.  Factory ammo is a 115 grain bullet at about 2800 fps.  Ballistically,  the 270 Win makes much more sense in a 26" heavy barrel.  The .375 JDJ is a pistol round that can't come close the the 375 H&H.  Also new this year is a SS 24" barrel in 25-06.

G2
Two new 23" blue barrels in 17 HM2 and 6.8 Rem.  Here is where the new 6.8 round does make sense as it fills the void between the 223 and 30-30.  The 6.8 Rem will be a much more capable deer rifle out to 300 yards than the 223 or 30-30.  Also a 50 caliber muzzleloading barrel for the G2.  This one must be paper thin as I thought the 45 cal was a little on the thin side.  Beware with heavy loads and the G2's light weight this one will kick like a mule.

Any information on the barrel length of the 50 caliber barrel? I wonder what the load data will be like?

My catalog says the 50 cal muzzleloading barrel for the G2 is 24" long.  That is the same as the G2 45 cal barrel.  No other info available at this time.

Gitzit, does your catalog say the 6.8 barrel is available now, or is it a pre-order?  Would you let me know?  Thanks, Joe

I stopped in at Thompson recently and was told the new catlogs will be out in February.  UPDATE! The 2005 catalogs are available. I picked one up today at the factory. (2/2/05)

What really bites is the fact that they're now going to make the 25-06 in stainless. Before buying mine in blue, I had called Fox Ridge and T/C about getting one and was told that they were not and would not be available. OH WELL!!! Just another excuse to buy another frame and barrel. Wonder if my wife will understand??

Thanks Gitzit,

I stopped at one of my customers and he called his distributor. The barrels aren't in the pipeline yet.  But the distributors have them priced out in their catalogs.  So, I had him put one on his "want list" with his distributor.  I figure it will be several months before I actually see it.  Thanks for getting back to me.  Joe

Joe,

This past weekend,I talked to a dealer a our local gunshow about the new stuff that T/C is coming out with(see my above post). He said that he had one of the 6.8 barrels(he didn't say whether it was a rifle or pistol barrel) at his shop. He gave me his card with phone number if you want it. I don't know if I can post his number here with out getting into trouble,so PM me.

Robert

Robert, thanks for your offer.  I'm getting the rifle barrel.  John (my customer)  called his distributor and has one coming for me when the distributor receives them.  Now I'm trying to locate the ammo.  Anyone know who, besides Remiington, is going to load rounds for this caliber?   Joe

I finally got my hands on a 2005 T/C catalog yesterday (I haven't put it down yet-LOL  ). There are a few new things available. To name a few the thumbhole buttstocks are available in walnut, black composite ,and camo composite.
They do have a few NEW accessories that are nice-mostly for blackpowder but some for the Contender and Encore.
If you do not have a catalog and would like me to look something up for you-No problem,I will be happy to.(Besides I woke up with it in my bed LOL :)
Take care

Just in case Team TC ever looks into this forum to see what is being said (an excellent way to track marketing and customer satisfaction, by the way), I would add to the futures list that they should make more stainless steel barrels available.  I think any new barrel they offer should be available either way and would sell to Encore owners who have heavily invested in their SS systems.  Right now, it feels like we are left out of most new releases.

Thanks for listening.

While we're adding to the wish list.  How about a left handed thumbhole stock for the G2, for us guys who shoot from the other side of the stock.
