How I got my lug.
« on: January 18, 2005, 05:20:21 PM »
Well lady luck smiled today and I was there to receive it.  As some of you know, I have been searching for a barrel latch lug.  Now I can buy one, but the idea is to get one on the cheap.  Its not that I am cheap  , its just that I really like a bargain.  So...... today I stopped by my local gun/pawn shop to check on what was new, or old and left over.  Found out the other day they have a "back room".  Where they keep all the "bits and pieces" of old guns.  Some are complete guns with only a bolt or clip missing or something broken.  Finally got the owner to do a bit of searching for me.  Found a ratty looking 12 ga Pardner 88 shotgun barrel.  The latching lug looked to be in good shape, but the fore arm lug was broken off.  Did a little "jawing" and walked out with it.  Thinking that I finally found me a decent lug that I can remove and start looking for a barrel to introduce to my "new" lug.  Got it into the shop, cleaned it up, shot a bit of oil to it.  Thought well, lets see if it will even fit my 223 UV frame.  Lawsemercy, it locked up juss like it was made for it.  I mean like tight, no gap at all, no wiggle waggle, nuttin but rock solid tight.  Well I was just gonna cut the lug off, but this dang barrel is not in all that bad a shape.  Now....(handiholic disease sets in), I can't decide whether to try to make a shotgun out of it or just use the lug.  I hope Ron is reading this, maybe he will see what he is getting into.  Oh well, whatever,..... I saw one more old shotgun barrel in there too.  Another 12 ga.  Maybe I should just go down tomorrow and liberate that one too.  Yes, I understand I can stop this anytime I want to.  Just don't want to right now.   :D  :D

Hey Don :D
The shop you're refering to.........are the initials MG? If so maybe we can plan to meet there sometime and further infect each other with Handi-itis. :) I'd like to get look at that back room myself.
I'll start making runs to the old Sooner plant again soon and will be there on Mondays. Let me know. PM if ya want.
