How do I measure my chamber length in my ultra?  Also I reload, what is a good starting overall length?  Currently I have been loading them and OAL is 2.230"  Is this too short for the Ultra?  Read something about getting the bullets closer to the rifling.  I have done O-ring trick to forearm but would like  to see if I can get a closer grouping.  It shoots groups that measure less than 3/8 of an inch @200 Yds using H335 and Nosler 40 bt bullets.  :grin:

My suggestion is you change nothing...if your getting 3/8" groups at 200 yards...you've done extreamly well...

:grin: Thanks Mac.  But I was still wondering what the corect way of measuring the chambers.  I am fairly new to reloading I started 7 months ago and am tryng to learn all the procedures to make all my guns more accurate. If my Remington 700 shot as good as my Ultra I would be more than pleased.

I'm with Mac. If your getting 3/8 in. groups at 200yds. don't touch anything else or do anything else. There are probably some competitive shooters out there would give anything for a group like that. :D

You're not pulling our legs are you... 3/8" @ 200 Yards?  If that's for real I would do nothing but cuddle and polish that baby with a soft cloth if I was you.  :wink:

:grin: No Brett I am not kidding you. I got out my dial calipers to make sure measures .330"  from center to center on farthest outside set of holes.  I guess I should consider myself lucky.  After the O-ring trick the groups just came together.

RODENTRIDDER, Yeh how about some more details about your gun, sites and load.  What scope are you using?  Aside from the o-ring trick have you done anything else to the gun like trigger work, polished chambrer or bore? Did you break the barrel in in any special way? Are you getting those 3/8" groups at a distance of two football fields hand held or using a gun vise?  Are these 3 shot, 5 shot or 10 shot groups? Are you sure your not blowing smoke up our hind ends?

Now now Brett, don't think that your butts getting smokey because of 3/8" groups at 200 yards. I can do that all day long with my H&R 45-70 Handirifle with the 22" barrel. Of course I always blow my group with the second shot!!!....<><.... :)

Aw shucks MSP, your right.  :oops: It's just pure jealousy on my part.  :mrgreen:  Shoot I'm happy as a pig in slop just to shoot an occasional 3/8" group at 200 Feet with my slicked up 10/22.  :cry:  :wink:  :D

:D Hi Guys my uv223 has a weaver v9 3-9x38 scope.  the trigger is already @ 3.5 Ibs I think it is fine for now.  The barrel break in was done with handloads I used moly coated bullets in 40grain.  Other than the O-ring trick and the handloads it shoot a 3 shot group very very  well.  Have tried 5 shot and it will widen up a little bit on the last two shot but not any worse 5/8".  The load that I use winchester brass,  cci primer, Nosler 40gr. BT and 26.7 gr. of H335
