7mm-08 Handi rifle, anyone own one?
« on: January 18, 2005, 04:07:34 AM »
I am cosidering this gun; I like what I've heard about the cartridge.  However, the few notes I have seen on this gun in this caliber is that people have been having trouble getting it to shoot good groups.

Any personal experiences with this gun and caliber combo?

I don't have a 7mm-08 yet, but ordered the barrel a couple weeks ago. called CS and they said it would be 2-3 weeks before I get it. They also said the barrel isn't a superlight,a missprint on their part. I have a 7mm-08 in a Savage Striker and it shoots a 1 1/2" group at 100yds. Now if I can get bougth to use the same load, that would be great. Carry the Striker in a shoulder holster and the Ultra at the same time.  Zeak

I bought one for my daughter before deer season for her first deer rifle.

So far, I've gotten decent hunting accuracy out of the Hornady Light Magnum 139 grain bulets, and a little better (Just over an inch at a hundred) out of hand loaded 120 grain Sierra softpoints.

I figure after some work on this rifle this summer, I'll have it down to less than an inch.

I'd recommend it whole heartedly.
