Author Topic: What do I have? Ever seen a stock like this? (Read 1134 times)

I won this NEF 22 Hornet in a raffle. After searching on the net, I have not been able to find another one with a stock like this one. It's laminated, with grey, brown, and red dyed layers. The overall length is just under 37 inches, which makes me think this is a youth stock perhaps? There's no cheek comb or pistol grip.

The box says: SB2-R24 22 Hornet. Anybody have any info? The stock looks nice, but it's too short for me and I'd prefer a standard monte-carlo style stock, so I'll probably sell, trade, or buy a standard stock.

Haven't shot it yet, but I will be sending it to the factory for a 223 barrel job.

If your interested I have a Laminated adult sized Monte Carlo stock set in a standard brown lamiate color with a recoil pad and white line spacer I might be willing to trade you for the straight youth set you have. I traded them for a synthetic set I had with someone here that wanted a synthetic set and really could use a straight youth set. Let me know know your feelings on a swap. Or perhaps you would prefer a new adult sized synthetic Monte Carlo stock set? ...<><.... :grin:

Stiff neck, just a thought,
If you plan to use the iron sights on your Hornet with the monte carlo stock, you might not be able to get your head low enough to see the sights.

Thanks for the welcome, and thanks for the trade! I've had this rifle for one day, and have read quite a bit on this site. Looks like a lot of folks really like these NEF rifles. I always thought they were odd, but now that I have one in my hands, it's kinda nice. I'm looking forward to nailing some coyotes ASAP.

Hey, I didn't notice this before, but there is a small 1/8" dent on the forearm. Looks like a minor storage ding. I'll post a pic in about 5 minutes. Like I said, I've had this rifle for one day, and as I was disassembling it I noticed this mark. Hope it's still a deal.

Here it is. It's on the left side, below the rear sight. It's about 1/8" long, just a light dent. Could be from the factory, I don't know. This is a brand new rifle.

OK, stiff neck, the stock set is wrapped and packed and I'm off to the Post Office. In about 10 minutes they will be dropped off and enroute to you Priority Mail, w/delivery confirmation. You should see them in about 3 days, Friday or Saturday at the latest I would think....<><.... :grin:

I'll tell ya a lil' trick I learned from my dad who learned from my granddad.

If a small dent like that seems irritating, simply wet the area with water so it lifts or swells the wood. Ya ever notice that wet wood will expand? Well you are using the same method to lift the dent out. BUT, with this laminate stock, I'm not sure if the wood will let it soak in because laminate stocks are resin dipped I believe to harden them. Its worth a try atleast.
