What Handi parts should I keep on hand?
« on: January 15, 2005, 04:51:48 PM »
I would like to keep an inventory of spare parts on hand to avoid having to send a gun back to the factory if something small breaks and to keep these guns running in the event they someday go out of production and parts become scarce.

Someone previously mentioned that Brownells stocks Handi Rifle parts.  I confirmed this with a visit to Brownells website.

What parts should I have on hand if I want to keep my Handi Rifle operating forever?  What parts are most likely to break?

The parts that I have read about breaking are the firing pin, transfer bar and the ejector(extractor) but they call the transfer bar a striker and lifter. And if you are considering any trigger work, you might want and extra hammer and sear.

Mainer, I don't think these Handi's are prone to breaking firing pins or other parts more than any other gun. I broke a firing pin once on an LC Smith shotgun but did not keep a supply on hand just in case it happened again, and have never needed one again either. I quess it's like something going on your car, if it goes once you don't stock up on that part. My point is just these Handi's don't have a tendency to break any specific parts any more than anyother gun. If you want to keep some small parts on hand, just in case, thats fine, but you and your grandchildren may have them a long, long, time....<><....

JB:  I found a website for a place called The Gun Garage, LLC, no parts list but I assume it's the same place you're talking about.

Have you seen the page on The Gun Garage website about the custom H&R Ultra .243 rebarrelled to .308 Bellm. ?1?  I posted a link to the same.  What a project!

I'm with Quick. The transfer bar and firing pin are the most likely parts to break. You also need a set of slave pins whether you buy them or make them yourself.

Mainer, Brownell's and Numrich both carry H&R parts. I prefer Brownell's, they ship fast, Numrich is real sloooow.
