Does anyone use Hornady custom 75 grain sst or hornady light magnum in
Handi's for deer ? I've tried remington 100 grain corelocks but couldn't get
them to group. My .308 handi shoots the 150 corelocks OK,was wondering about hornady accuracy and quality for deer in .243 Handi's, and do you Guys notice the ss handi compared to blued is more or less the same as far as accuracy?

I use Horandy 100 gr. light mag BTSP (boat tail spire point).

, Welcome aboard youngbdv, I don't have a Handi in either caliber and don't shoot my .308's much any more either. Gotta love those Handi's!!! I am sure those here that have them will chime in....<><.... :grin:

I've shot the 75 gr Hornady hp factory load in my UV and it's a 1 inch grouper. Their 58 gr v max doesn't group that well out of my gun,,,and I've not shot any of the heavy grain bullets. But I like the Hornady brand.

Sorry, I did not get back sooner. I use the light Magnums in 100 grain BTSP. Mostly shoots around 2 inch groups ( some better, some worse). The five pointer I shot with it dropped right there, I believe it is one of the better rounds for deer.

what is rifling twist rate of the .243 barrel?

Twist rate in the Handi .243 is 1 in 10. Also I have the superlight handi (20" blued barrel) in .243.

1:10, eh? That's definitely well suited to >75 gr bullets on average. Hornady's vmax is a good choice. This gun might not stabilize bullets heavier than 95gr., for best accuracy that is... I suggest a good starting point is to get a good reloading program for the pc. it will calculate optimal twist rate for various combinations of velocity, and bullet weight and length.
