« on: January 04, 2005, 02:10:06 PM »
hello guys, nice to see a forum on handgun hunting! I have been handgun hunting since 1988 with my S&W .44 MAG. . I am considering getting .480 cal. RAGING BULL IN THE 6 INCH, i always here about the .454 casull but not much on th .480 other than it kicks more than .44 mag. and less than the .454 . GIVE ME SOME INPUT on this issue if guys would not mind, and if you own one even better.   THANKS

howdy
I have a 480 in  Ruger super redhawk and love it!
So far I got new grips for it jus cause I wanted to nothing wrong with the factory grips. Currently using factory lead from Hornady and like it too.
Graybeard the boss here has a ragin bull in 480 and he could tell you more about the RB. Either choice will be a good one.

One more question, 6 or 8 inch barrel? Being vertically challenged 5'5" tall i find 6 inch barrel fits better for me when pulling gun out of bandolier holster. Would 8 inch barrel have less muzzle kick?

I have a RB in 454. Mine has the 8 inch barrel and is ported ( I don't recommend shooting it without protection I did once but that's another story) I find the recoil less than my .44 Smith. I assume this is due to the porting and the weight of the gun.  I can hold my Smith steady with one hand I can't the RB

I have a RB in .454 and can tell you you would have no trouble with recoil with it, less than any of my .44 mags. I have never had any trouble with mine, but some have and I`ve heard their coustomer service is a real customer NO service. They also don`t what you shooting reloaded ammo, duuuuuuu.

I have the RB480 with 8-3/8" barrel. Had the RB454 Casull same barrel length also but sold it as I like the .480 better. With max loads I honestly can't say I could tell any difference in recoil between them. But shooting an RB in either is about like shooting a S&W or Ruger in .44 magnum. Both of mine were super accurate and shoot better than me.

Can't compare recoil of 6" as I've never shot one but can't imagine that 2-3/8" being that much of a big deal.

I'm only 5'7" tall and have no problem pulling the 8-3/8" guns from a shoulder holster. Nor did I the 10-5/8" S&W 29 I used for years.
