How big can you go????

What is the biggest caliber that can be made legally for the encore..(not shotshells)  I have seen on another post that the contender can be chambered for a 577 ..Would that be LEGAL in the US if so what about the 600 and 700 nitro..a little much I know but some thing in the 577 would be interesting..I know case pressure would be the limiting factor and factory stock would not hold up under the recoil ..BUT WHAT IS THE BIGGEST BADDEST ROUND THAT CAN BE chambered IN A ENCORE???????

I have yet been able to shoot a 3 shot sub 1" group at 100 yards ...........on any deer!!!!!!

By law no newly invented rounds can exceed .50 caliber (I think .500" exactly but there could be a few thousandths leeway.)  Some of the more powerful "big boy" rounds Ive seen for the Encore include the .50 Alaskan, .500 Whisper, and see what JD Jones has done with the .50- 3 1/4" sharps, put .50 BMG bullets in it.  Very cool if not too traditional  :grin: .

I already have a 50s&w  ..  the biggest i see is the 50 alaskan anything bigger cant put a 700 nitro that is not newly invented..

The upper limit on the Encore is how much metal is left after chambering.  It is an open-top gun, so if you get too big a cartridge, you start thinning out the metal between the cartridge and you.

I called a custom shop and asked about a .378 Weatherby barrel for my Encore.  Was told no way, not enough metal left after cutting the chamber.  The largest caliber in T/Cs book is 45-70, the most powerful is the .375 H&H.

I`ve got a 510 WHISPER,10"barrel+brake,from SSK,it`s a 338 Lapua case trimmed down,and uses a 510 dia. bullet..LOT`S OF FUN...John

In the last issue of "One Good Shot" there is a fella working with a t/c 12 gauge, brass shells ,trying to get as close to the old fashion 12 bore rifles as possible and that would be a .730 cal...and another fella on another forum is working on a poor man's .600 nitro. (20 gauge)..
I have reloaded 12 and 20  gauge for a few years now a have all the stuff..But i never loaded slugs so I bought the brass and  12 gauge slugs..
and I am going to give this a try. I am not going to push the limits (No elephants in South Jersey)..

Dose any one have 12 slug loads that can be used with brass shell and a large rifle primer and 1 1/8 dangerous game slugs.

Or dose any one have black powder (cowboy loads) for a brass case and 12 gauge slugs..
I have no info for brass shells  or  loads that use large rifle primer...

But as far as how big you can go (12 gauge slug with brass shell  )well at least it looks impressive...and no need to load hot to take take deer...

Check out SHOTGUNWORLD.COM. There are forums there on cowboy action shotguns and  reloading . They have a link to a company that specilizes in slugs and you could probably get some good info from them.
