What kind of loads do you use in your TC's I'm going to try the late-season BP and I'm just finding a starting point.

I'm looking at the "Powerbelt" brand of bullets. I haven't decided what weight to go with yet... probably the 245 gr or 295 gr "Accutip" and 100 grains of pyrodex powder.

Any suggestions? Should I consider the hollowpoint instead, or a heavier bullet?

Maybe it`s just me, but I would reather shoot any powder than Pyrodex. I find it alot harder to clean than Black powder. Try some Hodgen 777, I like it better than anything I`ve tried to date. As for what Bullet I`m back to just useing a 240 grn. .44 cal. and a sabot. Other than cast bullets it`s the cheapest way to go and they will all kill deer with a good hit, and none of them kill with a bad hit.

I shot the 245 grain PowerBelt Aerotip on top of 150 grains of 777. The PowerBelts load very easily but don't offer the best accuracy in my rifle. 3" to 4" groups at 100 yards were typical. Although it performed well on whitetails I'm shooting sabots this year for more accuracy and less drop at longer ranges.

That's odd... the much of what I read has said the powerbelts have better accuracy because of the consitancy of the loading.

for and my encore i went with the 245 grain but may go witht he 223 grain next year and am using pellets and 100grains of 777 for my gun and am shooting ideal groups at 100 yards from 1" to 3/4" groups and when your shooting be sure and clean well after each shot as i found the encores shot better when cleaned after each shot and was doing great as i said. good luck and enjoy the bp. as for accuracy i found that 100 grains of 777 was much better than 150 and i also shot different bullets too and including the shockwaves and the loading and accuracy was much better with the powerbelts. try different ones and i think the powerbelts will win out if you clean between each shot and if you need to load for a 2nd shot then go ahead as the the bullet will load quick and easy and will be just as accurate as i did that when testing the gun and trying it in hunting situations

777 is loose powder? Any reason you don't use pyrodex.

this topic has been repeated over and over. but i would like to add one thing. with all of the powder choices, why would anyone want to use either of the stinky corrosive powders. my 2cents....

you can get 777 in pellets just like pyrodex and i like the 777 because it;s a little hotter and shoots cleaner than the pyrodex pellets. also being a little hotter it burns a little quicker and i like the little bit of speed you get over the pyrodex.
