why 15" barrels
« on: October 28, 2004, 01:12:04 AM »
I am sure there is a reason for this but why do you see a  lot of barrels in 15"  VS 16" or slightly longer am I correct that 16" is the minimun length for a "rifle" so why not 16" VS 15" so the barrel could be used in both configurations?
Thanks

The pistol barrels have a different hole spacing for the foreend as well. T/C probably wants to avoid the question of whether you should have a Buttstock or pistol grip on board.

I bought a 16 1/4" 250 Savage barrel from T/Cs Custom Shop with the intention of being able to use it as both a rifle and Pistol barrel. But then reality set in. I would have had to have two different scopes and swap them back and forth depending on what I wanted to do with the gun that day. I like to put a scope on, sight it in and not mess with that set-up again so I have never used that barrel as a pistol. Sean

sorry...one track mind....I was only thinking contender and you are obviously talking about an encore barrel.

Yeah, and I got mine from Fox Ridge although T/C did make some .250 factory pistol barrels. Sean

I have been shooting a SSK 14 inch SS 250 Savage for 16 years....I had seen a few rechambers to 250 Savage(257 tcu and 256 Win Mag) through the years.  I think it is the perfect all around chambering for bobcats and coyotes to big deer. I shoot 100 gr ballistic tips.

I believe 15" is the maximum sight radius allowed in IMSHA competitions, where Contender/Encore guns are used a good bit.
