257JDJ/250AI rechamber
« on: July 18, 2004, 06:16:14 AM »
Need some opinions...I have a .256 SuperMag VVCG 16.5 inch Encore barrel that I think I need a little more power out of. I was thinking of one of these as choices. Or should I sell this barrel and get another. It is a real tack driver in present carbine form. Range in carbine form would be 200 yards max, critter size would be 75 lbs max. They don't get to big in Southern AZ.  Thanks in advance.

JD lists loads as high as (FPS/bullet) 3025/75, 2800/87, 2645/100 and 2400/120 for the 257JDJ if that's any help for you in the horsepower department, but I think those numbers are for a 14" barrel.

I'm on my second 14" SSK 257JDJ barrel BTW - LOTSA FUN!

Well it took a while, but I finally made up my mind and shipped off my barrel to SSk for rechamber to 257JDJ, thanks Ladobe, I value your opinion. It was the most cost effective way to get all the power I need for southern Arizona. The barrel had all the goody's to start with, and JD was very reasonable in cost. Hope to get it back in 10 days or so...

Moe -

Its nice when a plan works out isn't it?   JD will do a good job on the rechamber too, and VV used great blanks for their barrels so I'll bet you will be happy with it.   He'll also send you load data to get you started.    Good luck pard, and enjoy that 257JDJ.

Well I got my barrel back yesterday from JD in 257 JDJ. He was reluctant to do the rechamber because it was a VV barrel. He said if he had known he would not have done it. Loaded some rounds today and hopefully shoot them later.

odds are it started out as a Shilen blank that VVCG chambered. Why then would he be reluctant ? What barrel blanks does SSK use?
