Which tires are better?
« on: April 04, 2004, 07:09:51 AM »
I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab SLT 4X4. Its about time to get new tires. I want tires that are gonna be better then the Goodyear RT/S that came on it. I live in Central New York so I need tires that are really good in the snow. I also want them to be pretty good in mud too.
So far I'm looking at-
1-BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO
2-Goodyear Wrangler MT/R
3-Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo
In this order! What do you guys think. Thanks!

New York Hunter,
Have you gone to Dunn Tire, Fairmount?  I deal there exclusively and they have always given me more than I've asked for.  I believe they carry Cooper, Bridgestone, as well as the usual big brands.

Cooper is what I have on my Dodge Ram 4X4, and I have used BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO. Both are great tires.

Out of the 3 you listted I would go with the Revos. Tons of people very happy with them. Others to consider from my past/present experience would be Cooper Discover AT's which I ran on my 97 Z-71 and had excellent luck with. I am running Yokohama Geolander AT+II on my 03 2500HD. Again an excellent tire!

Well since two of the "Dunn Tires" stores in my area didn't act like they wanted to sell me the BFGoodrich All terrain T/A KO's, I started looking at different tires on the "internet", and I found Dunlop's Radial Rover RT tires. After reading about these tires on a few different sights I think they'll work better for me then the three tires I mentioned. There just as good in the snow as the three others and better then all but the Goodyear MT/R's in the mud, from what I've read. There a "commercial truck tire", making them ideal for dirt roads, gravel, logging roads ect. From what I've read there also suppose to last pretty long too.  There also the cheapest at $118 a piece from the "Tire Rack".
Now back to "Dunn Tire. I went to their Dewitt store (for any one in my area) on Tuesday, 4/13/04 I told them to order the BFG All terrain T/A KO's. The salesmen "Wayne" told me they would be in on Thursday 4/15/04. I called them on Thursday and they said "WHAT TIRES". Knowing that everyone makes mistakes I called back on Friday 4/16/04 and talked to Jason that said the size tire I wanted 265/70R16 was "hard to find" but he'd have no problem getting the same tire in 265/75R16 which is almost an inch taller, no big deal. He was gonna call me back in an hour or so. Saturday morning I still didn't hear back from "Jason" so I called the "Dunn Tire" in Cicero (again for anyone in my area) and asked about the Dunlop radial Rover RT. The kid I talked to said he had to call his warehouse in Buffalo and he was gonna call me back first thing Monday morning.  So Monday afternoon I ordered the Dunlop tires from the "Tire Rack" www.tirerack.com. :-D  Please feel free to ask me what I think of "Dunn Tire" :(

NYH,
Sorry that you haven't had very good service from those Dunn stores.  I guess if you were to call their Fairmount store and told the manager your story about the problems you've had, I'd bet he would make it GOOD!.....but then again, I've never had to order tires.  Seems like one store or all should be able to handle that request.

savageT, I thought about calling their Fairmount store, but after two of their stores couldn't help me I wasn't gonna waste my time with another. Dunn Tire seems to have the best prices around, but if their not gonna call me back or place my order when they say they are, then I'll go somewhere else! Thanks for the info though!!!

Well I had my Dunlop Radial Rover Rt 265/75R16 tires ( factory tires were 26570R16) mounted today. So far so good. They don't make to much noise. They do ride a little harder then the factory Goodyear Wrangler RT/S tires did, but I did buy a "TRUCK" :gulp: . Thanks again for all the info!!! :-)
