Well, that's just what the US trucking industry needs. Another trucking regulation written by someone who knows nuthin about the trucking industry.

I'm all for English being the country's language but, there has been a driver shortage for years, and this will help nuthin. I'd be more interested in better training, and driver safety. I don't really care if the driver speaks good English.

Texas and other states are experimenting with driverless trucks. These to supplement a driver shortage. These driverless trucks won't speak English either.

  Then too, a driver may come upon a scene following a flood, where somebody has put up a temporary sign, which says.. BLIND GRADE BRIDGE OUT.

    Just two examples, but ability to read in the common language would be most helpful..

    Warning signs such as CHILDREN AT PLAY and BLIND GRADE BRIDGE OUT are not exclusive to truck drivers.

Not an assumption Dee.  If they can't speak English, they sure as hell can't read it.

I ran my own trucking company for 13 years Casull. 48 states and I met a lot of folks. If they can't read signs, how do you think they find load locations, and delivery points in those 48 states?

They go to training to get their CDL to drive, and they go to schools to read those signs, maps, routes and so on, and so on, and so on.
Without those skills the CDL licenses don't happen.

I'm not trying to insult anyone but, you guys don't have a clue how the trucking industry operates. Surmising doesn't get the freight deliverd. You guys better hope a lotta these drivers don't get their licenses pulled because there are is a generation of English speaking Americans that won't leave home for weeks at a time, and live in an area/truck smaller than a small bathroom, and put up with road ragging 4 wheelers..

I'm not worried about anything. I sold my trucks years ago. My original point was, and is, folks that don't know anything about the trucking industry, shouldn't be regulating the trucking industry.
You don't like lawyers/Congressman spending your tax dollars that have no business experience, you don't like lawyers (and others) regulating your God given rights, 2nd Amendment ect, that know nothing whatsoever about guns, you  don't  want government to tell you that you should drive an electric car but, your telling a guy that doesn't speak good English that he has to go by your rules to drive a truck. Again, most English speaking Americans thumb their noses at the job.
And yes, getting goods safely delivered to their final destination while not being able to speak good English is certainly, or should be,a non issue.

With that said, I'll resign myself to what I know to be true, and let you guys continue on.

LOL, of course I agree with the regulations for the most part. I think if a driver that doesn't speak English can still do the job, he should be allowed to continue driving. I'm a Trump supporter but, there are far more issues that are far more important, than whether a truck driver speaks English. If he can do the job then leave him alone and let him do it.

Trump is trying to make knowing English mandatory so as to not allow illegals to become citizens unless they learn English and learn how our system of government works.  This is bigger than just trucking.  Trucking is going to be taken over by driverless vehicles, especially those that use the interstate system and start and begin not far off the interstate system.  It is coming.  Face it long distance trucking is hard on a person and their families.  Not many young people want to do this.  Also, for non perishable goods, trains are cheaper. 

I have a personal idea that if they added a third rail to railroads, a 16' wide train could be used.  Older trains could still use the track.  Wider trains would allow for shipping containers to be double stacked width wise.  It might also allow for wider passenger trains, especially high speed trains, that being wider could take turns faster.  The biggest hold up to this is bridges and tunnels. 

I've read that America has a transportation gap.  It is time and speed wise.  Longer than two hours and distance between 140 miles and 600-700 miles.  Planes are good over 600 miles as far as speed and time.  Cars and trucks are good under 140 miles and under 2 hours driving.  We have a shortage between 140 miles and 600 miles and under two hours.  High speed trains could solve this problem.  Say 200 mph can get you 400 miles in 2 hours.  It could be built elevated along the interstate or upgrade, fence, and straighten out the existing rail system. 

Hyperloop could have solved this problem, but no one wanted to invest in doing it.  It would go about 600 mph in a tube.  Each vehicle  could carry passengers or a single cargo container.  It would work like a vacuum tube at the bank drive thrus.  One vehicle at a time from point to point.  Points would have to be far enough apart to make it worth while.  Like from state capital to state capital and from military base to military base, then large city to large city.  Hyperloop was also suggested to carry a vehicle with a small passenger compartment in so a family or small group of people would be able to use their car when they got to their destination instead of renting cars when they got there.

Ideology vs reality. The age old struggle. In a perfect world, everyone would speak English with a southern accent.
Everyone has their own ideology of the way things should be done. With my past experience with people at their best, and worst, and after 75 years of just living, I've learned that if you don't like the way its being done, do it yourself.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
