Sims recoil pad for Encore Realtree stock

Any of you removed the original equipment recoil pad to replace it with the Sims unit?  

If so, can you describe what it took to do the replacement?

Also, everyone who talks about it says it was worth doing, would you agree?

I am mostly interested in the process and if you found it to be an exact fit.

I did it on my Encore, with the black synthetic stock.  All it took was a screwdiver to remove the 2 screws that held on the original pad and put on the new one.  The Sims pad was a perfect fit and was definitely worth the $26.00.  What a difference in recoil !!!  I have and would continue to recommend it to anyone shooting an Encore.  Just make sure you have a good hard tipped screwdriver and that you can apply enough pressure on the screwhead so as not to strip the head.

Where did you buy your Sims pad?  Say it is just a bolt on type pad?

I just got the Sims pad and like it so far when shooting the 25-06. The real reason I purchased the thing was when shooting my 45-70. I haven't had a chance to see the difference in the Sims vs the stock pad when firing the heavy recoiling .45cal, but just from the feel of the 25-06 it should make a big difference in the 45-70. By the way, make sure and use the same screws that were used w/ the stock pad. The over size screws that accompany the Sims pad are much larger and could possibly crack your stock. It will also change your LOP about 1/2 in. I would recommend the Sims pad to everybody!

Held on by 2 screws for the synthetic stock.  I got mine about a year ago and can't remember where from.  But just do what I did . . . do a search on the web for Sims recoil pad.  It should bring up several places.  I used their screws but it was tough going.  I striped my original ones out enough (why I say be careful when you take the original ones out) that I went with the Sims ones.

Hate to sound like a weenie but as I sit here at the computer my left arm (I shoot left handed) is stiffening up like I was in a car wreck.

There can be no other reason than that I shot 4 3" turkey rounds through my Encore 12 guage just before dark.  As someone above said, it kicks like a mule on steroids!  Had plugs in so my ears are fine but I am really gonna have to consider the Limbsaver pad.  

Now for the Advil!

For that mule you might want not only the Sims recoil pad but a Past recoil shield.  Can you imagine leaning up against a tree when you are hunting and taking that hit? :roll:

I shot mine 24 times in one sitting the other day, the Sims pad is great but it won't slow down a dose of 3" turkey shot!  I took the seat pad off of my turkey vest and put it between the butt and my shoulder.  It knocked the hide off my trigger finger as well, I guess the front of the guard was hitting it.  I put on an old leather glove and fixed that too.  I have killed a few turkeys with it so far and like with other guns I ain't felt it yet.  Good luck.

Bought my 10031 tonight at a local store and installed it in about 20 minutes.  Perfect fit on the Encore Realtree Hardwoods camo stock.  Obviously designed for it.  Unscrew the old--lay the new one in and screw it on.  Easy! Hardest part was giving up the $26 plus tax.

Lots of room in the hollow stock for something--just not sure what!  LOP increased by about 1/2 inch.

The real test of success will come when I shoot it this weekend to see if there is a difference.

I put one on my Encore 375 H&H and it works! Gun kicks hard with factory loads but the limb saver pad was worth the money!

I put one on my Encore turkey setup and swear by it.   I had recently had a heart attack and am now on tons of medications, especially blood thinners.  Meaning...I bruise easily.

I shot my encore with just about every make and size of turkey shot the other day..about 30 rounds...and yet I was not bruised up.   3 rounds with the stock pad and ouch!!!!

It makes a huge difference, it still lets you know you shot something..but it really seems to curb that sharp kick.   Easily replaced..just remove the two screws in the original pad, save them, and use them for the Sims pad which is a perfect fit.  I sparayed a little silicone on a phillips screw driver and inserted into the pad to make it easier.   Then, after the pad comes off push the old screws thru the pad and out.   It takes some force but will come out.

Then, push the screws from the original pad thru the Sims pad and screw it on.  Took about 3 minutes.  I bought mine for $23.00 from D and R Sports  at www.dnrsports.com

I'm glad you guys are having great results with those Sims pads.  I must be the only guy in the country that bought one that was not at all a good fit on my Encore black synthetic stock.  I had overlap on the stock material on both sides and the pad was a bit off on height as well.  Took it off and put the original back on.  I've since about ruined that Sims pad trying to make it fit on a couple of other rifles without much success, still hangin' on to it though.   I emailed Sims about my problem and never got a response.  Guess one odd-ball gunstock didn't get them too excited.
