Speed records have always fascinated me, to a great degree.
I remember well when fifteen some years ago, Art Arfons was still going to Bonneville with a new jet car, as the dude he sold the old one to wanted an asinine price for it and peed in his pants the only time he drove it but at the same time , for a car, any car to go even 300 mph was a rare occurance.
Hot Rod had an article at how speed record attempts were a far, far cry from the old days; well in the past five years the boys are back full blast.

I think Art is the guy who used to run a jet powered dragster. I saw him run it a few times at Green Valley drag racing track. It was something else to see. He never raced anyone just made a pass with it down the track after all the other races were over.

He had to go last cuz he usually took out the lights on his run.
