The Ford F-150 and Toyota Tacoma were the best-selling large and midsize pickups in the coronavirus-hit second quarter of 2020, as pickups outsold passenger cars for the first time ever in April, but which ones were the fastest-selling?

iSeeCars.com analyzed sales from March through June to determine what trucks spent the least time on the lot. The average for new pickups was 104 days, compared with 96.9 for all new vehicles. Both figures are larger than usual due to the economic downturn during the period. The numbers for each model include leftover vehicles from previous model years.

(Toyota)

The Tacoma topped the list at 72.6 days. Toyota typically sells as many of the popular pickups as it is capable of building, and production during the period was reduced due to factory closures.

The Honda Ridgeline, which is one of the lowest-volume models – just 6,380 were sold in the second quarter of this year, compared with 51,062 Tacomas – was second at 77.4 days.

The views are good from the 2019 GMC Sierra AT4 pickup

The GMC Sierra 1500 edged out its Chevrolet Silverado 1500 twin at 83.9 days to 85.1, while the full-size Toyota Tundra – which is another perennially capacity-constrained model – rounded out the top five at 89 days.

The rest of the pickups – including the best-selling F-150 – all came in under the average, due to the vagaries of supply and demand. The longer vehicles take to sell, the more likely shoppers are to find generous incentives.

Here is the full list of every light-duty pickup and how many days it took to sell one during the reporting period:

1             Toyota Tacoma – 72.6

2             Honda Ridgeline – 77.4

3             GMC Sierra 1500 – 83.9

4             Chevrolet Silverado 1500 – 85.1

5             Toyota Tundra – 89.0

6             Chevrolet Colorado – 107.3

7             Ram Pickup 1500 – 107.8

8             Ram Pickup 1500 Classic – 111.7

9             Jeep Gladiator – 116.3

10           Ford F-150 – 122.8

11           Ford Ranger – 125.9

12           GMC Canyon – 128.8

13           Nissan Titan – 147.8

14           Nissan Frontier – 158.3

I just traded my Tacoma in on a tundra. Tacoma just wont pull a load. hooked my trailer and lawn mower up last week. Tacoma. maybe 2000 lbs. and really knew it was back there. I have a boat that weighs 4 or 5 thousand pounds. glade I did have to tow it. don't know why I traded my  old tundra in.

Tundra is what I drive, been driving one a long time. My first was a new 2008 before it went full size, got a 2011 which Matt now drives and my current one is a 2017 with less than 10,000 on it after almost 4 years. I'm a real low mileage driver these days.

I bought my first Tundra new as a 2004 model. I shopped for both Chevy and Ford before deciding on the Tundra. I made the decision because I was able to get same equipment for a few $1000 less money.

Since then I've only owned Toyota.

Mr. greybeard, what kind of MPG are you getting in city driving. we mostly use wife's car in city. I really don't give a damn. I want the tundra because it is the strongest towing (based on the one I traded in)on the market. I got then limited model. believe it or not, they gave me $30,000.00 for my 2018 Tacoma tro package, 4 door, around 25000 miles. I just don't like waiting.

I live about 8 miles from the small college town of Jacksonville, AL. My driving is back and forth to town and around in town as needed and otherwise from here up to the smaller store about 3 miles away.

I rarely go out on open road and when I do the trip is ten miles or less one way.

Come November I will have had my 2017 Tundra for 4 years and it is doubtful I will roll 10,000 on the odometer by then. So you can see I don't do much driving and can't tell you the mileage I get either in town or on open road.

My driving is likely more akin to your in town driving than it is for someone who is on the go and out on the highway often. I am averaging a bit under 16 mpg for total driving since buying it base on what the truck says. I have never checked the mileage by filling it, driving and refilling since I bought it.

It is rare that I drive more than 55 mph or more than 10 miles one way to anywhere.
