New to me gun - Need help

I received my 20 gauge slug gun today and have to fix a few things and need your help. 


- The first is the scope mount was glued on and I want to use iron sights.  I peeled the mount off but now I have dried glue left on the barrel and it looks bad.  How can I get that off while not removing any blueing?  I peeled all that I can but it still has a bad look. 


- The stock is also WAY too short for me.  I am a tall guy and I wont be able to shoot the gun accurately with this short of a stock and need about another inch or so.  How can I extend the stock without spending a lot of $$$?  I am running low on funds so the cheaper fix the better.

Use heat and elbow grease to remove the glue, a heat gun works good, a propane torch used carefully will work too, or just stick in a preheated 250º oven if it will fit, turn the oven off after it's preheated. Add a $20 Walmart Limbsaver pad to extend LOP.

I'd just add that the Winchester Pads are the brand of slipon's at Walmart for that price.  If you want to be sure not to scratch the barrel in the oven, put a moist towel in on the rack first.  The steam effect will actually help remove the gunk too. 

I would add that if it's still too short and it's a wood stock, I've extended a stock before by cutting rectangular pieces of 1" pine board about the width and height of the stock butt with a coping saw.  Then draw the outline of the current buttstock on the piece of wood.  Trim the wood to the line, but taper your coping saw blade slightly, so it's flared out.  Then attach the wood to your current stock and slowly sand down until smooth.  If it's still not long enough, repeat the process.  I had an ancient lever BB gun my dad had given me that I got about 12 extra years of plinking out of in this manner.  I just made a leather boot to fit over it out of rawhide and then soaked the rawhide and then let it dry in front of our fireplace.  If you take into account the thickness of one of the slip on recoil pads, you can use it to cover the raw wood area and not worry about finishing.  Just seal the wood so it doesn't warp with a clear coat or oil and drive on.

The Walmart slip-on is or at least was a Limbsaver, says so right on the pad as shown in the pic, mine is marked the same, although they aren't $20 anymore.....like too many other things!

It already has a recoil pad on it, will one of the slip on recoil pads actually fit over the current one?

Get the larger sized one and it should be good.

You are both right about the slip on pads from Wallyworld.  They are sold under the Winchester name but they do have the Limbsaver trademark on the side of them.  I bought one 3 or 4 years ago and they work well for a $20 pad.

I have the Medium Wallyworld (Limbsaver/Winch.) pad and it will fit over the recoil pads on all my Handi stock, Laminated, Synthetic, PW, etc both Lo Comb and MC styles.
