Model 33 smooth bore
« on: February 27, 2013, 02:25:06 PM »
Can anyone tell me about the Rem model 33 smooth bore. Is it rare, what is the purpose of a .22 smooth bore? I am looking at buying one of these. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Don't know anything about the Rem 33, but I remember reading somewhere about a clay target game using miniature clays that was shot using .22 smoothbores.

I'm sure that wasn't the only purpose for them.  I would guess people also used them for small pest control in gardens, etc.

I have heard 22 lr smoothbores referred to as garden guns. I would think that the garden should be outside the city limits.

There was a game called MO Skeet.
You shot minnie clays with a 22 smoth bore shooting shot shells.
The smooth bore worked better than shooting the shot shells through a rifled barrel.
I kick my self for not getting one years ago when I had a chance.

When I was a boy scout in the late 50s and early 60s, I can remember shooting "skeet" with a .22.  Bet that was the gun.
