357/356 twist accetable
« on: September 29, 2012, 03:35:35 PM »
been reading about the 356/358 conversions from the 357 barrels and was curious about the barrel twist being adequate. Is it?

Do you have the opportunity to specify between the 15.5 or 18.5 if you order a new barrel?

Seems the 15.5 would work ok.

Thouhts....

From the FAQs"

.357 Mag 1 in 18¾"  or 1:15½"
.357 Maxi 1 in 18¾"
.35 Remington 1 in 16"

My .356/.358 was done with a .357 barrel.  cwlongshot's was done with a .35 Remington.  Both rifles are accurate and shoot well, although I haven't loaded anything over 200 gr. yet.  The heaviest bullet I'll probably load is the 225 gr. Gameking.

thanks petemi,

I looked at the FAQ's and saw the twist for the 357 and caught the bit about the "or 15 1/2"

Can you specify which if you order a new 357 barrel or is it pot luck?

I've read thru 34 pages of old posts and have found no mention of the 357 rate of twist affecting accuracy or not.  Seems, I'd prefer the 15 1/2 if I had a choice.

Modern 357Mag barrels are 1:15½", both of mine are, at least until someone comes up with one that's not any way  ;D, I think that's what you will get as an accessory barrel now.  ;)

I forgot to say, mine is the 15 1/2.  I suppose that's the reason mine and CWs are shooting pretty much alike.
