Sending in my receiver monday
« on: August 16, 2012, 11:04:30 AM »
Well, I am finally sending in my receiver to get my .223 barrel.  I called and got my SR# today.  He told me what it was going to cost but didn't say anything about how to send payment.  Do I just send it in and they call me and I give them a CC number or do I send payment with it.  Also, being that I am sending it to Ilion and I live in NY I assume I have to pay sales tax.  He didn't mention that to me.  He asked me twice a couple times for information I had already given him (last name, what barrel).  He said I have to send in the stock which is no big deal I guess....just gonna cost me more to ship it in.  Should I call back to double check everything, or should I call and ask for anyone specific?  I can't send it in until monday due to my work schedule so I can call on break tomorrow if needed or Monday morning.

Your credit card info goes on the order form or you can include a check, they charge everyone tax, prices are listed on the accessory barrel website, they'll contact you if they need more money if you send a check.

Better call. I have been conversing with them alot lately.  Lady I talked to said not to include card Info incase of loss or stolen.  and they confirm when package arrives.  maybe just a different persons routine.

Is there any one person I should ask for if I call back.  I didn't get the name of the guy I talked to but he had a thick southern accent.  If I could just send in the receiver than I can save some on shipping it to them which would be great.

If you're scared of loss, then you'd better not send a check either, I'd rather use a credit card which protects against fraudulent charges, sending a check you're giving anyone access to your checking account, your name, acct number and bank routing number are all on each check!  ::) I've done thousands of online transactions and had my credit card compromised more than once, and have never lost a cent, but if you're bank account is compromised, don't count on  recouping any funds anytime soon.  :'(

I've sent many frames in for accessory barrels without any problems using a credit card for payment. As for who to call, ask for Lisa Walters, she and Brian are the only two H&R staff I'd trust, it's really too bad Brian is in Ilion and we have to call Madison CS.  :-\  If you call H&R CS three times and ask em the same question, you'll likely get three different answers, they seem be very proficient in giving misinformation,  it's been that way since CS moved to Madison NC.  :-\  You can track the service at their website. http://www.hr1871.com/Support/repair_services/tracking/repair_information.aspx

H&R. NEF  support, here is an update on customer service.
Remington as most of you all know has bought Marlin/ H&R. And I have posted here what barrels & stocks are available to you. What you do not know is that because of a software glitch, customer service, in Madison N.C. did not know what barrels & stocks were added or removed  to the H & R accessory program. Because of this software glitch many of you have called Customer service about Barrel and or stock availability and were told that they were not in stock, or available. This is not true. We, H & R Remington have just completed our yearly Inventory as of 3-13 -12  and we are in the processing of updating our software. Please note that some of these barrels, and stocks are not stock Inventory parts, but they were a special order customer over run parts for quality control purposes. These barrels are a first come first serve Item. I will post soon which barrels & stocks are a one time only deal.
I thank You all for your understanding, and please give Madison a chance to update their software. They are trying very hard to meet all of your needs. Thank You, And  God Bless You.
At, this time I wish to give a very special Thanks to Emily Allbright,my lovely sidekick in the office that really makes all this possible. And equally to,  Lisa Walters, Madison , N.C. H&R customer service, Lisa is the #1 person for all H&R Madison support.. Please try her first for all your H&R issues. Thank You!!

I included card info with my recent barrel order and the card I used was just compromised - I don't have any idea if it was related or not, but the comments here do make it seem like there could be a connection.  I'd suggest taking the cautious approach.

pretty good time, i guess. It always amazes me how slow some things are. I can cut two quarter panels off a car , replace them, and paint and finish in 3 days. Id say fitting a barrel and repacking and shipping out should take a day.

I've learned one thing about any gun work. Smiths do not get in a hurry, lol. My Mauser has been with my Smith for 3wks to get drilled & tapped for scope mounts. He's also looking for a 7x57 barrel for it. He told I might have it in time to kill a deer this year. When I do get it back, I still have to weld a new bolt on and fit the semi inletted stock. That's the reason I bought the 270 Handi, it's ready to go now. I'll let him work at his own pace as he needs it.

Yup, but when they do hundreds a week, ya get to stand in line and wait your turn.  ;)

I called and talked to Lisa this morning.  She said it would be better to send it with the stock for when Brian test fires the barrel.  I forgot to ask her if it mattered if it was the stock that was going to stay on the rifle or not.  I am setting it up with a survivor stock but it won't fit in the box I found in the closet with the survivor stock.  I was thinking of swapping it our for my shotgun stock just so I won't have to search for a new box.  Other choice would be to disassemble it and send it in pieces.

Other than the forend fitting the barrel, it doesn't need to be the stock set you intend to use, their test fire is just for proof and function, not accuracy.

NYRebel,

Sounds like a good plan, but I'm curious how one handles the change from rimfire to center fire?  Thanks.

I never said anything about a rimfire.  The receiver is off a .243 superlight that I am getting a .223 barrel put on.

I use a dedicated CC for online purchases that has NO connection to any other account and I pay it off each month. If a compromise occurs it does not affect anything else in my life and is much easier to address/rectify.
